Question Springs

Hi Everyone,

I just joined the Forum - It's a great place.
Initially, I just have a quick question.

I have a '93 RX-7 R1 and am considering installing a set of springs (1.0"/1.0"). I'm currently looking at the Eibach Pro-Kit springs. If anyone has any suggestions on other systems/prices/vendors, I will very much appreciate it.

Many thanks

I have run both and I cant tell a difference. The H&R will give you a little more drop. M2 has a new line of springs which seem nice. Might want to check those out.

Thanks Guys.
I guess it's a choice between the Eibach and the H&R since cost is an issue. I've also heard and read that the diff. between the two is not that pronounced.
If you have any more suggestions on where to get them cheap (either on the internet or a distributor) that would be great - I'm in Toronto.

Thanks a lot

I'm using the Eibach, like them alot. I don't have any experience with the H&R but I've never heard anything bad about them at all.

I have a feeling that most people on this board do their own work. Especially something relatively easy, like chaning out springs.

I've heard it's costs about $200.00 to get someone else to install the springs. And I've also heard of people paying $200.00 to get them installed and having the car come back with the springs not sitting correctly on the rubbers.

I chose to do mine myself because of the cost and I didn't want anything messed up, but I am sure a reputable shop could do it just fine.

I didn't. It was about $100 bucks for the install.

best options are the HRs or Racing Beat srpings. Both are linear. Differnce is Racing BEat has a larger drop in rear than front. .75 in front and 1.5 in back. I think HR is about .75 all around.

If you want performance, or for that matter just retain the stock feel and stiffness, dont get progressive springs, ie Eibach Pro, unless you want your seven to ride like a cadillac broughm. (mild exageration)

Make sure you get new shocks too, unless you have an R model. I have the RB spings, and I love them, nice drop, etc. They still don;t feel as good as the stock ones in terms of stifnees and match with the R2 springs, but that is okay, because they car sits much better.

I have the H&R springs and I have a problem. When I drive through dipping corners at the track the tires hit the top of the wheel well. The same happened with the stock springs. It is not a rim or tire size issue because it happens with stock rims with Mazda specified tire size. I am looking at the eibachs because I read on one site where they are about 50% stiffer than stock where the H&Rs are 25% to 30% stiffer. I have never seen a rating on the H&Rs but the Eibach were, if I recall, 550# and 450#. If anybody has had my problem or can correct my figures please do.

I've narrowed my spring search to either Eibach pro or Racing Beat. Can anyone give me the inside scoop on which is stiffer? I'll also be pairing the springs up with Tokico PP's and I have Motegi MR8 17" wheels w/ 215/45's. I need the cornering stiffness. Any advice will be helpfull. Thanks

I am still pretty sure about the specs I gave on the Eibachs but I just discoverd that the M@ sprot/track springs have the same rates. It is possible I was coufusing the two.

Are you replacing your struts at the same time?

If not, I would highly suggest it. FYI, you can buy the Koni yellows which will give you around a 0.5" of lowering and be able to retain your stock springs. Ride will become firmer due to upgraded struts, but your springs will remain the same.

Why are you changing the springs? Like ARD T2 said, you might want to look into struts - changing from eibach to H&R will make little to no difference in the handling characteristics of the car - you'll want to look into struts next - maybe even keep your current springs. New struts will make a WORLD of difference when it comes to the feel of the car on the road.... think of it as the spring being there to help out the strut (which does most of the work), not the other way around.

I'm not so sure. I have Koni Yellow's on stock springs and I can tell I need spring still badly. Probably more than the struts, or at least I'm hoping b/c the Koni's are nice but didn't fix the body roll I'm looking to lessen.

Edit: Forgive me I forgot he was discussing one aftermarket spring to another.
