RSR race springs feedback-fd
I know a lot of people are interested in these springs, so thought I would share a couple of things.
-They drop the car quite a bit more than the advertised < 1 inch, I haven't had stock springs for a long time so no exact measurement. If I had to guess -1.5". If you are installing them, make sure to check those upper shock mounts! I have no rubbing issues under hard braking whatsoever with 235/40/17 front and 265/40/17 rear tires.
-Because they are so short, installation is cake, no spring compressor required!
-They are pretty stiff combined with the koni's, which may be annoying if you drive on bumpy roads. All a matter of personal taste I guess. The car has much less body roll than my old koni/ pfs "comfort" spring combo and still plenty of weight transfer to hook up at the strip. I am using pettit's long track alignment settings.
All in all I am very happy with them and would strongly recommend them as a cheaper, less punishing alternative to coilovers.

Awesome. I just put a set on my FC. Just so happens that we're holdig a huge stock on these RAce Springs also. I think we backordered so many that we got the whole shipment. If you guys are interested please let us know and we'll set you up on the Forum deal.

my ride height looks just like that ^ with gab super r shocks. however i did use a spring compressor to install it. i guess i may not have needed it
just a comment on ride height, it is extremely low even with perfect upper spring perches.

just got back from my first drive after putting in the springs and shocks. it feels at least 5x as stiff as my stock 94 setup. (the road feels 100x rougher )
the tail end almost didn't make it off the driveway, i'd say i had about 1 cm height left while backing out before i left a piece of my exhaust/lower bumper on the street. i jumped out 3 or 4 times to make sure it would make it.
the front lip didn't make it though. scraped for ~8inches at the end of the driveway.
going down the flattest ramps down to the street is crazy too.
i did test out a good sized speed bump at around 1-2mph nothing scraped i think.. except a tiny bit of my front undertray, but i think its just the rear portion that i haven't pinned up. then again im not sure that it was the undertray.. i can't imagine how it would be like if i went over it faster.
on the freeway, sections that had felt smooth before show imperfections a LOT. the ride was pretty uncomfortable @60mph. + i was dodging tiny rough patches the whole time.
i thought i knew what stiff suspension meant when i first got my fd. but this is insane. its like driving a carriage with steel wheels and solid wood suspension.
so the good stuff is that it just feels so much nicer to drive now. there is very little body roll. the lower driving position and road feel makes me feel like im more part of the car. or road? feels like im sitting on the road.
btw the numbers:
measured drop is exactly 27mm (1 1/6 inch)
overall i love the setup and despite the jarring ride i drove around with a big grin.
biggest negative, a little too low. i'll see if changing my driving habits can get around this and report back later.

btw to clarify my last post about the 1 1/6th inch drop, that was the rear drop only, i forgot to measure the front height before installing if someone posts the stock height i'll put up the dropped # tomorrow night.
maybe its possible to counter the drop with koni yellows since there are 3 perch settings. unless the highest perch is standard and the other 2 settings drop more.. anyone? or maybe its 1 higher setting and 1 lower..hmm
rishie how do illuminas help the ride height? the gabs have the exact perch height as stock shocks, are illuminas higher/adjustable?
would adding a layer of rubber to the lower perch surface (like the stock lower perch has) have the double effect of raising ride height AND absorb some of the road's harshness?

according to rs-r the down springs drop a lot more. 0.8 front 0.6 back compared to .4 all around for the race. are the down springs' measurements true to actual? i may want to switch to those if they are. today i put my lip to the pavement ~4-5 times even at low speeds going over those sidewalk/street gutters. like when i made a right turn at a red at ~5mph. btw im running the gabs at 7 front 4 rears
some pictures from today. gab super r + rs-r race springs + 245/45 on stock rims

my car is so damn low that my bumper touches the ground when i tur really hard.
i just put on an rb sway bar up front...maybe that'll help a bit.
if rsr made these springs with stock ride height, i'd never even think about coilovers unless i wanted to pretend i'm gonna be a professional racer

sevensix. I am so mad at you. So very mad. I have those shocks but now im gonna be stuck with poopy tein springs. Judging by the settings of your shocks these teins may not be so bad tho.

i may eventually decide to do something about my ride height. its almost becoming too much of a pain to drive the fd when i have to crawl over any part of the street that isn't perfectly flat. and the lip will still scrape.
that and i've now had 2 incidences where i bottomed out the car on a speedbump and both times i was doing the granny crawl. i even braked on the apex of the bump and on the way down at less than 1mph. one thing i do not want is a beat up underbody.

I tell you. As a younger man I tried my hardest to destroy this car. But, the only thing on the underbody I seem to have messed up is my sway bars. Now thats not insignifigant but im just sayin she might be sturdier than you think. If I told you some stories...I totally understand your beef. I think the teins are just as low or lower though. And I kindof wanted that extra spring rate in the back. Im not much of a drag racer and I prefer oversteer so I could really do without the weight transfer. I dunno though> maybe shell squat and run outta the corner. I wont know til i get em on and Ill def do a writeup. They should be here in a week or so.
