RS*R Race Springs for FD

Have any track goers tried the RS*R race springs? The rear spring rate seems a bit high (450f / 390r). It seems like the down spring has a more favorable ratio (350f / 260r), but are quite a bit softer. I’m concerned the race springs would exacerbate the FD’s tail happy nature when running symmetrical tire sizes.

I had these on my FD with stock shocks. They had a very nice track feel, but were very harsh when I drove on the street. The car still had body roll, but it still cornered very well. I chose these over other companies lowering springs for the sole fact that these had some of the highest spring rates of any that I found. A very good product for a casual racer, like me, but not recommended for a lush drive.

BTW, they lower the car more than they advertise. I saw a difference of 1.5 inches. I frequently scratched the undercarriage. Just another thing to consider...

Did you replace the upper shock mounts when installing the springs? They could have been worn and caused the lower ride height.

FYI, the down springs lower the car more than the race springs

I am currently running the Race springs with stock Touring shocks, and the only thing that I scrape is the 99' lip. The springs significantly decrease the body roll, and lower the car to an "aggressive" stance. I am currently running the stock rims and stock size tires, and experience no rubbing. The springs are a little harsh on the street, but after about 2 months youll get used to it. Just watch out for those big potholes

I just installed them on my car and have a track event next month, I'll let you know. Should be a nice all around setup with the koni's and new upper strut mounts. They are stiffer than most other springs, but quite a bit softer than most coilover setups. I don't have the car on the ground yet to check the drop (f'n bushings!)

I don't have them but the spring rate ratio certainly seems to be more balanced for the typical Japanese staggered setup rather than a symmetrical setup. Might make those medium to fast speed corner exits a little fun...

Any of you get them lately? I've had a set on order for three months.

It only took a week to get mine from sport compact only, now if they would just get me my ss brake lines I would be happy with them.

Thanx for the input What is wrong with rsr springs? What has a better "perfromance"?

That is my concern.

Neat, are you running a staggard tire sizes? Did you note a change in balance?

turbogarrett, please keep us updated!

Turbo II, if you have negative experiences with RS*R, please articulate them. Just saying something sucks and doesn't have performance isn't very constructive and makes you sound, I'll use an euphemism here, "uninformed".

1st to 3rd, I was running stock wheels with the springs. Note a change in balance? Uh, I noticed that I had a more neutral feel when driving. But that might have been because I started improving my technique. I don't know if that answered your question or not...

afterburn27, I didn't even check. I had a track event the next day, so I just slapped them on and went racing. They performed quite well, vastly better than stock. Also, I know that RS-R advertises the Down springs with a lower ride height. I'm just saying from what I saw. It might be different for the next guy.

The RS*R race springs have been great for us and the clients that have chosen them. I have yet to take one of the cars to a track event but handling has been greatly increased on the street. Overall better neutral feel, as said before the body roll is greatly decreased. For the price and quality they are hard to beat.

Turbogarrett, any updates on the track day? Is it this month (April)? Keep us up to date I am anxious to hear how your car handled

Turbo II-FB, What problem did you have with your springs? We have them both for the FD and FC and I have yet to feel a negative effect on any of the cars.
