Cool Reply from Work Wheels: Meister S2 & S2R

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your contact to us.

Regarding of the difference between Meister S2 and
S2R, S2 is forged 1 piece construction wheel.
S2R is forged center disk and 2 piece construction
wheel. S2 has been specified the size and offset already, but the weight is lighter than S2R.
however, the advantage of S2R is that you can choose the offset you want.

For the fitment to your 94' RX-7,
our recommended size is as follows :

S2 : 17x8.0+33 for front
a~??17x9.0+33 for rear

S2R: 17x8.0+35 for front
17x9.0+33 for rear

we hope above information will help you out.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your reply.
17x8.5 front and 17x9.5 rear could be acceptable,
however, 17x9 front and 17x10 rear is impossible to install your car.

Sorry, but the Racing Hart CP 035 is not our products, so we cannot compare the weight difference.

Please understand.

Thanks.
Sincerely,

The 17" S2's are single peice forged wheels.

The 18" S2R's are a two peice with only the center being foged. SLightly heavier but allows for custom offsets.

The Work VS-SS is the same wheel but it's a 3 piece (I believe).

GoRacer: that guy's response that "17x9 front and 17x10 rear is impossible to install your car" is simply bullshit. Everyone around here knows that that is a very common setup. I would disregard his size recommendations. For the offset he recommeded, a 33+ on a 17x9 rear is too conservative, IMO. That would translate to a +45 offset on a 10' wide wheel, which is what I have, and that is the reason I have been itching to sell my wheels.

But to clarify, for a fully stock situation (non-aggressive look, no rolling of the fenders, wheel tucked INSIDE the fender), his +33 offset is correct.

From my recent research (seeing pics of other cars) and judging by my own car, for the rears, for a more aggressive look, with the wheel lip even (or flush) with the outside of the fender, you would need a +26 offset for 9" wide wheels and a +38 offset for 10" wide wheels, regardless if 17",18" or 19" diameter. All the pics that I have seen with the +38 offset look awesome. Here is an example:

I know someone with those wheels. They're nice. I'll ask him what size, offsets they are.

Hmm, I think I prefer conservative offsets. What I want is the tire tucked inside and before the fender lip curve and not flush with the outside of the fender lip.

I am just remembering that all the newest sports cars at the 2003 auto show had smaller front wheels and larger diameter rears. This subject was brought up before with the Corvette and was beleived to be for asthetics but then why do the new and also concept cars have 18", 19" and even 21" rears with 17" fronts?

Anyhow, I need to hook up with you (Tom'sRX7) and FD Racer to see both of your offsets together.

I typed it right above the pic, they are +38 offset. The car is shown on www.3rotor.com; I believe it's one of the guys personal cars. I emailed to them and they responed: "the 19inch Rims are Mille Miglia offset is .38 PCD 114.3 we had to get them custom made for car.
-3rotor"

I emailed him again after that asking for the width and (if I remember correctly) he said 19x8.5 fr and 19x10 rear, but I can't remember for sure. Maybe you can email him again and find out for us.

GoRacer, I might be picking up my car tomorrow from the fabricator. He is just about done welding up the intercooler pipes and other misc stuff. If so, I'll call you and we can cruise over to Fd Racer over in Redondo or Hermosa or wherever he is. Otherwise, the car will be done next Mon or Tues.

Better yet, here is a direct link to the site that features the car. If you scroll about half way down the page, he wrote that they are 19"s. Check it out- some nice pics there:

I like the offsets on those 19's and it seems 275's is as wide as you can go and still tuck in. I haven't seen 285's tuck inside like that on anyones ride. I wonder if 285's would work with that offset?

Trust me, those wheels would not "tuck" on your car, unless you already rolled your fenders that is. In the case of this car, he rolled his fenders and he's running tires that are too narrow for the wheel. With the properly sized tire and NOT rolled fenders, he would be shredding those tires.

As for anyone running 285's, I can on my car. I have 18x10, 47 offset in the rear and right now I have 265's. Trust me, I have soooo much room, it's like the Grand Canyon. I've had several people tell me 285's would be perfect.

In any case, I'm sure you will soon see my car for yourself, first hand.

Take care,
Tom

For anyone looking in to these. The silver is powder coated and the lip is polished. I thought the whole thing was blingaliscious but in person I like the burning black better. Basically it looks like they melted the powder coat and left a smooth finish but slightly tinted.

There are no 1/2 sizes in 17" and 9" is as wide as you can go with no custom offsets. 18" S2R's offer custom offsets, are a two peice rim and slightly heavier.

The Meister S1 is a 3-peice rim, custom offset and 10" wide is possible. The face is the traditional 5-star pattern but they offer an incredible selection of colors to match your cars paint job.

Work's offset chart. I don't remeber if we have a hi or low pad. Does everyone in Japan roll their fenders? I really have a hard time deciphering this index. 17" full sizes only and 18" they have 1/2 sizes.

Meister S1 two piece:

Meister S1 three peice:

Top link doesn't work. Anyhow, "we" don't have a high or low pad- that does not refer to our car. High, low or medium pad tells you how thick the face (or center) of the wheel is. If it's a high pad, then the center is real thick and you lose that deep dish (dep lip) look.

The low pad gives you the thinnest center, deepest dish/lip. The risk is that you may have a clearance problem with the wheel rubbing the brake caliper. For what it's worth, on my car, I bought low pad for the front and the rear and I have no problems at all. However, if I were to put on aftermarket brake calipers, there might be a problem. But then again, right now I have a lot of room so it would probably still be ok.

ok, just planning ahead, incase I sell my Daytona's for some Work Meister's. I was also debating the same size F/R's. There were two guys at Tri-Point with the 18" Max Cooper fitment, but that's pushing it and needs rolled fenders. I really prefer the tucked in and deep dish look, with some (hoochie eye candy) bling-bling!

Go to www.wheeloptions.com and get their phone number. Talk to Vick. I believe they are in El Monte. He can order virtually any wheel from Japan.

Sorry it took so long to reply... this damn forum always F's up and doesn't send me email notifications that there has been a post. Anyhow, yes, that is Discount Tire in El Monte. How come you don't like them?

The guy, Vic, kinda f'ed me too cuz I told him to order the wheels with an offset that would set the lip exactly even/flush with my fender. Instead, the idiot ordered the manufacture's recommended offset and they sit too far in for my liking. But other than that, he gave me a great deal.

I don't like them because of they aren't professional at all. My friend order some Volk for his Perlude and they installed a wrong offset wheels on it so it rub the fender. Their solution is to roll the fender for my friend's car and that doesn't solve the problem. My friend asked for a refund and they refused to do so. I took a look on the wheels and they stick out too much and will never fit the Perlude. That's one of my bad experience with them. Even if their price is decent I still don't want to deal with them. I would pay a little more to receive a more professional and knowledgable service.
