Quick quesion of wheel selection for FD>

I have a question for everyone. Are there any wheel options for an FD that dont cost $2000+? I think everyones wheels look great on here, but I dont understand why all of them are so expensive. Are there any knock off companies or anything that make decent wheels at a much lower price? I am not trying to get roasted for this question, I am just trying to find out if anyone doesnt run "super tuner" wheels on their FD. Even used those things run close to $2000. My 93 VR Touring FD is my daily driver so it's not a race car or anything. I would just like to put some nicer wheels and rubber on it without sacrificing food for 6 months. I found some ebay options. What are your thoughts on something like this. Not these in particular, but something along those lines.

EBAY WHEELS

I guess they will be heavier than race wheels, but will it really make that much of a difference on a street driven car? I am new to this, so if I'm way off on looking into this let me know. Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks for your help.

It's your car, do what you please.

Keep in mind once you add shipping, tires, mounting and balancing you are going to be around $1200, one would assume that they would weigh appx. 20+ lbs per wheel. Thats around a 5lb increase per corner over stock.

Check out SSR comps, Kosei K-1, Enkei RPM2. Those are on the cheaper side of things and don't weigh a ton.

Thanks. I dont think any wheels will be in budget just yet, but I was wondering if there is a cheaper options than a set of Volks, etc. I am just looking around and I havent really seen anything other than extremely high end wheels on anyones car. But then again, it's a high end car, so why not. Thanks for the help. I think I will keep the stockers. They arent too bad I guess. I just really think a nice set of 18's or so look great with body lines of the FD. That and the lower profile tires. Any other opinions please comment. Thanks again.

You get what you pay for. You spend small, you get heavy and cheaply made wheels. Them's the facts. Also, you should realize that tires in 17 and 18 inch wider sizes usually cost significantly more than stock size tires.

I strongly suggest you look at a used set of quality wheels. I picked up my Enkei RP-01s with fairly new tires for less than $1200.

If you want high quality new wheels, about the minimum you can spend is $1500-1600, which will get you 17" SSR Competitions or 17" SSR GT-1s.

Thanks Rynberg. I agree on you get what you pay for. I was just wondering if there is any cheaper options out there. Which apartently there are a few, but once you spend $1500 you may as well spend $2000 to get what you want. Thanks everyone for your help. I think when the time comes I will just keep my eyes on the classifieds until I find the deal I am looking for.

Thanks again guys. The 5zigens do indeed look like a good bet. That answers my question. I think if the time comes for new wheels I will look into those as a viable option.
