Q/A GUIDE TO TEIN HAs

This thread is intended to bring closure to several nagging questions/issues re the TEIN HAs. Given that there is little info on the TEIN web pages (www.tein.com OR, slightly better www.tein.co.jp) and you can't search for HA posts using the search function (the label is only 2 characters) and people have had a chance to put some miles on these shocks I thought it would be productive to throw all the unresolved questions into one thread and have HA owners give their input.

I know there are a lot of other good shocks out there but please restrict all comments to the HAs-it will make the search function more useful which will hopefully at some point benefit all of us.

Here goes

QUESTION 1 (with subparts): Do the HAs with pillowballs squeak? Did spraying grease on the mounts solve the problem?-if yes for how long?

QUESTION 2: Do the HAs without pillowball mounts squeak? Is there a solution?

QUESTION 3: Rust clearly seems to be a problem with the original HAs, however it appears that there is now an updated version of the HAs on the market (that has 24 clicks instead of 16). Has anybody with the updated version had corrosion/rust problems.

QUESTION 4: what damping settings are people running?

BONUS: List anything significant that doesn't fall under the above.

Ok, I've been using mine for about 6K miles now...

1-Using stock mounts

2-Stock Mazda OEM mounts in conjunction with the Tein HA shock/spring combo do not squeak. I reused my stock shock mounts as they were in very good condition

3-Mine are 16 way adjustable and they do have rust on them. It's on the threaded portion on top of the shock body below the adjustment *****. I'll take a pic as soon as I can and post it. It does not seem to be a major issue.

4-Typically, I running 12f/r, occasionally backing it down to 8. I run the same for both. My car is actually heavier in the rear with a full tank of gas (corner weighted and balanced). The stiffer settings keep the car from bottoming out or allowing my fiberglass front to grind on the ground. :-)

Re: Q/A GUIDE TO TEIN HAs

1: I have the pillowballs and they squeak lightly, I can only hear the rears do it.. but then they are right behind me as opposed to the fronts which are under the hood. I have not tried grease on the mounts.

2: Don't know, never tried it.. answer seems to be above.

3. I have the newer 24 setting version and no rust.. but I am in Los Angeles and the car never really goes out when it is raining.

4. I am running 12 front and 10 rear.. 12 being 12 clicks up from full soft (clockwise).
