Arrow Proud new Owner of some nice Mazdaspeed MS-01

Well i just bought some MS-01's and have some questions.

Im curious as to where i can get different center caps. Ive seen some chrome ones, that look very nice.

Also wheres the best place i can grab a good quality Mazda Speed Sticker for the rims.

Cheers,

Mark

You're gonna have fun there .

I have an OLD OLD OLD set of Racing Beat wheels, they were actually made in '92 by Racing Hart for RB. Took me YEARS to track down a full set of center caps, and I paid a LOT. Actually, I bought a set of the same wheels that were for a Miata (15x7 4 lug) that were messed up pretty bad but had the center caps. I basically pitched the rims and used just the center caps!

I have some wisdom for you that I got from my quest. I spent a LOT and bought a LOT of the wrong parts to learn this .

First, you won't find those center caps new anywhere. You'll have to find them used. Typically the caps will only be sold with wheels, you just have to try and get lucky . Scour Ebay regularly.

Next, there are a few parts to the center caps. I believe they're like my wheels - you have a plate that goes over the lug nuts, a large center nut that screws over the plate, and a logo center cap that goes onto the large nut.

TSW made a wheel ages ago, I think it was the Hockenheim-R, that used a damn near perfect center plate. You can still get them new from TSW - that's what I'm using. I think they're like $20 each, I can get a part number if you need it. You'll need to find a TSW dealer to get them, my local shop here (Fighters Garage) was able to get them for me.

Next, the large nuts. I THINK your wheels are similar in that they're made by Racing Hart. If so, Racing Hart center nuts will work. The TSW center nuts are a course thread and won't work, and Rays/Volk center nuts are a slightly different size and won't work. Again, not sure here - might be worth doing some research, PM some people, see what fits and see if the wheels have a mark telling who made them.

The center cap is the real tricky part. You can get it custom made by a local sign shop or something - that might be a good option if you can't find a full set.

Finally, if you need a wrench to install the center nuts, BBS center cap wrenches work perfectly. The center nut is 80mm, and you can get those wrenches on Ebay for $10-20.

There ya go. Did I mention I spent a LOT of money buying the wrong parts, borrowing parts of other people's cars to see if it would fit, hours on Ebay, etc.? I was in a worse situation, though - the MS-01's are a more modern wheel, the Racing Beat wheels are so old it made it a real chore. Heck, I called Racing Beat once to ask them about it, they said "we never made wheels". Uh, sure!

Oh, finally, the Mazdaspeed sticker - try a local vinyl sign shop, they could easily make one up for you.

Of course, after saying all this, you'll probably hit up Ebay and find someone selling a mint set for $20 .

Wow thanks for all the info. these mazdaspeed wheels are made by rays though, so ill see where i can maybe get a machine shop to make them. Or maybe FD Newbie can help me out with sourcing them.

On another note, what size of tires would you guys recommend for these rims?

Cheers,

Mark

Is this for an FD? If so, I have the same size wheels on mine, running 245/40s front & 275/40s rear. Sorry, I don't know the wheel offsets, they were on the car when I got it.

Ms01's are sick nice choice!

I'm looking to get some new screws all the way around the wheel. I had mine refinished and the screws are rusting. Sucks when you spend $800, and that happens.

Yea its to go on my FD. I was also looking at the Fuzion ZRi's, there cheap in price... But the reviews seem to be great! For the low low price, i just dont think some one could go wrong. I have Kumho Ecsta SPT os the FD right now, and i paid over 260 per tire for those, and couple reviews are comparing them closely with the SPT's.

Anyone have some experiences with the Fuzion ZRi's?

Don't get the Fuzions!!!

Get the Star Specs, or even the Federal 595RSR's and you'll be glad to have made the choice. They're both much less than 260 per tire.

Dont get the ZRis.. I tried them on my S2000 and hated them, plus they wore out in like 5k miles. The direzzas that Rich recommended are very nice, also would suggest the Summitomo HTR Z IIIs for a good tire if youre on a budget.

If you thought the SPT's had great grip, you'll blow your mind when you drive on the star specs.
