It's not the spring perch that is the problem.I have tried to fit a 235/45 R17 on 17x8 +35 wheels on the stock front suspension and the tire hits the spring not the perch.I run 225/45's without any problems. And that is with **** kumo's that are about as blocky as some other tire makes 235/40's.
Judging by the pic though and other peoples comments,if you run the ground control's you will need closer to a +30 offset.
Are the ground contol kits 2.5" diameter springs? At one time I believe they had listed on their website a so-called/named racing version of the coilover sleeves for the FC3S with a 2.25" diameter spring,but no info .Does anyone know if they still offer them?

Actually, we knew that the Ground Control lower adjustable spring perch stuck out the most.
I know GC had made several different lower adjustable spring perch designs, and I run the old type (set screw that tighens against the threaded collars).
It was a bitch trying to get a real good pic under the wheel well.
I was trying to get a good angle that shows the vertical plane of the back side of the wheel in relation to all the inside suspension junk.
The lower spring perch *on the Tokico* actually stuck out a little, but the pic doesn't really shows that clearly.
If you try and imagine the first and second pic combined, that same type / size tire would easily hit the shock.
I really don't know how much more clearance a 225 wide tire would give you...see below.


Yeah, this is while tire sizes are always nominal.
There is no guarantee that a 225 / 45 / 17 size will have identical dimensions between two tire manufacturers.
I used to say this a lot.
That's why I like to give a little "wiggle" room and not run the fitments too tight (inside).


I'll be swapping the suspension soon, and reshooting all the pics.
If no one hasn't noticed, that shocks is DEAD.
I have a set of GAB's with stock type springs that I'm going to shove under there (don't hold your breath!), and I'm planning to swap again to a Koni set-up after that.

That's a good point.
GC used to use Hyperco (Hypercoil?) springs on the old kits.
They changed over the Eibach soon after that.
I think I'm running the old type springs which are not Eibach.

Would these rims fit a 2 gen and what do you think about them, will they look good? oh yea and will i need spacers?

stock offset and stock TII wheel width and the tire size looks to be right. Shouldn't be any problems running those.

No, compare this with the stock Turbo II wheels which are already pretty tight inside...

16" x 7.0, +40
205 / 55 / 16

Your wheels are 0.5" wider, which means 0.25" less space inside and out.
On top of that, you're moving the wheels 5mm inward toward the suspension.

The wider tires knocks down the clearance even more.

So, The inner wheel lip just moved about 0.5" inward (6mm ~ 1/4"), and you have a wider tire.
I just can't see this working at all.

yeah thats what i figured, i test fitted them and they rub. i wish the previous owner would of at least mentioned something but i think ill go 215s up front or do spacers?

Unless it's a spacer type that bolts to the hub, then the wheel bolts to studs pressed into the spacer, then you'll need some seriously long studs.

Those will fit. You'd need the longer ones for the front for sure, the shorter ones will probably work in the back.

I got the tires and there is some slight rubbing on the perch. I am working on getting some 1/8th spacers. Also, I was thinking that trimming the spring perch a little might work. I would use a grinder to try to remove metal(maybe a 1/4") in the right spot and then smooth and round the edges. Has anyone done anything like this before?
What is the mininimum spring perch to tire clearance that yo guys reccomend?

For 17x8's in the front the sweet spot is 30mm, with 5mm deviation on either side acceptable in many cases, but not always, 35mm is very close to the springs. 30mm is also the sweet spot for 9's in the rear, with a 10mm variance allowable.

Uh... They'll look about the same.

6.4mm offset will stick way out and hit the fenders. You need something closer to 30mm to fit the biggest possible tires.
