I'm more of a function over the extreme stretch type myself ,but I have to admit that "-B-'s" FC looks awesome.With a bit more pulling and rolling of the front and back ,you could get a reasonable tire on those 18's.If I recall correctly there was a FC with a decent pulled/rolled rear fender running 5 Zigen FN01R-C's in a 17x10+12 with a 275/40R but pulling/streching the fender lip out that much you will need to do some filling/body work.

Okay, that "1/3 to 1/2 of an inch" is the tire to strut clearance up front, right?
If so, this has nothing to do with clearance for "bouncing".
How low is the front dropped?
It's a matter of how soft / stiff the springs are, and how close the tires are to the plastic fender liner?


Yeah, if you got that much clearances, 245 is not a problem!

ARD already answered in your other thread, but I'd still rather go with the 8.0", +25 up front and roll the (front) fender.
9.0", +35 in rear is the standard.

The 16" x 7.0", +35 front and 16" x 8.0", +38 is the best combo from above.

16" x 7.0", +50 is too deep in front; 16" x 8.0" rear will fit but not flush with fenders.

18" x 8.0", +40 is too deep up front; 18" x 9.0", +45 is too deep in rear.

16" x 7.0", +50 will fit in rear but not flush with fenders.

I wouldn't go under a +35 on a 7.0" with the 225 tire.

these were an old set of my drift wheels i threw on for the hell of it, and it turned out nicely. sits rather flush
after i finish up with the sr swap and get my suspension going, ill put on some wide fenders and probably go up to 17x9 +10 17x10 +/-10

is it possible to stretch 215 on a 9inch rims? i have 225's and only the stretched part of the tire sticks out pass the edge. i didnt roll the fender and am scared it might **** something up.

also, should i get an alignment? i know its to keep the wheels straight for even tire where, but i am already close to the fender as it is. i feel if i get an alignment, it might just push the top of the wheel out more and make it stick out even more towards the fender. what do you suggest and why. and can i even get an alignment without after market parts? car is all stock and not lowered. running 225/40 and 235/40 rear. rims are 18x9 24 offset.

Will I run into rubbing problem? need spacer or fender rolled? what size of tires do you recommend to use?

NOT TEDman BUT,

both sets will fit fine. (its for an fc right?)

for the first set you can run probably up to 255 (maybe wider) with no rubbing in the rears and maybe up to 245 in the fronts.

for the second same goes for the fronts but the rears might rub the outter fender (i doubt it though).

of course if you want to roll the fenders you could probably go wider with no problems.

for the 2nd set, why will the rear rub the fender? the width is smaller and the offset is more positive, it should sit closer to the strut shouldnt it comparing to the 1st set.

OHH **** i thought they were all 17x8.

statement stands on the front 17x8 +30. might need spacers (somewhere around 1/4" 3-6mm) for the 17x9 (you are really close to the struts) especially to run wide tires.

the 17x7 should be ok. the 17x8 +35 might rub, again you are close and might rub the strut with wide tires (doubt it though).

never rolled my fenders so i dont know how much that would clear.

That's just about perfect.
Run 225 / 45 / 17 up front no problems.
You could probably get away with a 235 / 40 / 17 also, but this is a weird size - you get better selection with 225 / 45 / 17.

The 9.0" in the rear can go down to almost a +40 on the offset with a 255 / 40 / 16 tire.
It should clear with your current spec of 9.0", +30.
With a 255 / 40 / 17 tire, it might come close to the fender lip.
If you are really worried about pounding the fender lip for clearance, you can drop down to a 245 / 40 / 17 tire - this should clear no problem, but you run a little stretch with the 9.0" width.


As for your other option...
The front or rear fitment is no problem.
With the narrower width, I would go 225 / 45 / 17 up front and 245 / 40 / 17 in rear.

Ok, I pretty much know nothing when it comes to wheel/tire fitment. I have a set of 225/45/17 R-comps that I currently run on 17x7s on my Legacy. I don't think the tires are going to be completely worn out by the end of the autox season, so I was thinking about getting some 17x7s to run them on my 88 GTU which will essentially be a dedicated race car. I figure the advantages of this would be that I can save on buying a new set of tires, I can get a bigger contact patch, and I can probably get lighter wheels. The wheels that are on the GTU right now are 87 turbo wheels, which look like they're pretty heavy (though I haven't taken them off yet to actually weigh them). My questions are:
1) What size spacers will I need?
2) Will I need to roll the fenders?

Right now, I have 225/45/17 front and 245/45/17 rear...

I think i'm going to drop to a 40 series all the way around though...the sidewall is too tall for me. i can feel the sidewall flex too much for my taste....

We can't answer your questions till you give us the offset of those 7.0" wheels.
At the very least measure the backspacing?
