The tire isn't the issue here. The extra half inch width on your wheels as well the higher offset puts the inner edge of the wheel dangerously close to your suspension components. For this wheel width, the recommended offset is around 35 or lower. The spacers will also improve the look of the wheels on the car, in my opinion. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Can I run a 10mm on the back as well to keep the look balanced? And I read somewhere that anything over a 5mm spacer requires longer studs, is that true?

I haven't looked thru this whole thread yet, but it looks like most people do large'ish wheels on the fc? I'm looking to get another car, just a fun summer car, but I'd be interested in making an fc "old school" Anybody have good pics of an fc done in this style?

Can you fit 17x9 all around with coilovers without rubbing or sticking out? 255 in rear and at least 235 in front.
What offset would it take? I'd like to have the wheels all be the same size, but spacers are ok.

You sure can. You'll need a good flare on the lip of the fender or overfenders.
You'll want a 17x9 +24 or lower offset. I've run 17x9 +24 w/ 255/40/17 all around in the past, now I'm running 17x9 +17 with the same tires sizes. My current flare on the stock fender didn't last, so I installed panspeed flares up front.
