I purchased these rims on ebay and this guy is telling me each rim is 25 lbs.

I know this cant be right. Aluminum rims like that shouldn' t be more that 15 lbs, am I wrong?

Anyway hes charging me 100 dollars shipping for 4 rims alone. I am just looking for the exact weight of each Mustang GT wheel that look like the ones below (if I did it right)

I think he might be saying it to rake you over on the shipping. Try a mustang forum though, youd probably have alot better luck there.

Yeah, thos wheels are around 22-25lbs, as they are 17" wheels

Ive always been a little keen on the shipping that people charge over ebay, they can charge anything they want.

I just checked UPS and (2) 30 lb. boxes shipped is 33 dollars grround shipping. I think he is way overestimating.

Even if the rims are more like 20 lb it should be more like $50 for shipping.

Still looking for the exact weight if anyone knows.

I would believe him about the weight. Most cast alloy wheels in that size range are in the mid-20 lb range or even higher.

25# is actually pretty decent for an oem cast 17" wheel.

well I didn't move the thread, but yes you were asking wheel weights that had nothing to do really with the 2nd gen section, so it should have been moved.

Yeah your wrong. 16" FD wheels are around 15lbs ea. 87 TII wheels are around 25lbs ea. I wouldn't be surprised a bit if those wheels are 25lbs ea.

my mustang cobra 17"x8"s are 21lbs. These are Stock Cobra wheels and not cobra R's.

Dude, I've got those wheels on my car... 46.5lbs / corner with tires on 'em. Better believe the guy. And ground shipping via usps is like 30 bucks for a single 30# box.

21lbs each bare. Aluminum. pretty heavy with the tires i got, tires are heavyer then wheel. but i got 255's (255,40,17) race rubber all the way around. current project making them fit.

yea, there 17's. The cars ride is really high right now, how close i am and the angle of the picture make them look a little strange. ill get more pics as soon as i get them all mounted and so on.

the 255's clear the suspension, though the heat shilelds on the mufflers had to be pushed back by hand because they where rubbing a little. it does not clear the front fender at all.. (duh!) thats my current project. The rear quarter pannel is really close, might have to roll the inner lip in. then hopefully there will be no probs.

I know how you guys feel about people's shipping charges, but yo have to remember a few things too. The price is for shipping and HANDLING. The guy has to purchase or find a suitable box, packaging and then haul these to UPS. He might only have the mustang, so he'll have to make 2 trips. All I'm saying is that $100 is a pretty decent deal, maybe a little over the top but not outrageous. YOu should have got the shipping and handling charges before you bid.

OC_ I called discount tire and they told me that the wheels would fit. I also called les shcwab and they said i might need a lower profile tire like 245's I just dont want any problems when I get the wheels.

245 is a tire width, not a profile.. if you run 245/45 its almost the same hight as the stock sized tire and should fit in the rear no prob. as for the wheels fitting, they fit fine. I have already proven that to myself, no spacers or anything.
i know that the 255's dont clear the stock fenders, thats my project

this is where i found mine, i just put up a WTB ad and waited till someone 'local' (i met him half way between chicago and indianapolis, about 100miles) and saw the wheels in person and then got them. No shipping at all!

Hey thanks for the info, I dont know that much about tire sizes. I have mine on the way and ill post pics when I get em on. So are you saying the tires were too tall for your fender in front or too wide? and 245 is the width? like 245 mm...? then what does the 45 mean...

245 is width in mm
45 is the aspect ratio (ht vs width)

Example (my setup):
255/35/18 setup
255 (W) is width in millimeters.
.35 (A) is the aspect ratio (height compared to width, in decimal form, .35)
18 (D) is the wheel diameter

Here is a little equation that will get you to within 3-4% of actual (so I've read)
(W) / 25.4 x (A) x 2 + (D)

Take the width (255) and divide by 25.4 (metric conversion to inches)= 10.03937
Multiply that total by the aspect ratio (as a decimal) or .35 = 3.5137795 (which equals the height of the sidwall)
Multiply that sum by 2 (for each sidewall, top and bottom) = 7.027559
Add that total to the wheel diameter (18) = 25.027559 inches

Kinda' confusing at first glance, but work it a few times it comes fairly easy.
