Need help on wheel fitment for FC
Anyone know if a 17 x 9 wheel with a 17mm offset would fit all the way around with a 275/40/17 tire?
I found a sweet deal locally and they would look bad *** just not sure if the 275 would clear up front or not? I wouldnt mind buying some 5mm wheel spacers if I had to either. The car will not be raced, just a daily summer driver.
Thanks for any help or insight

that will clear coilovers, but definately not the stock fenders. you'll need some 30mm all around.
i'm running 285 all around on 18x9.5 +15
also- 275/40/17 is a really tall tire. you'll have issues with turning in the front. the tire will hit the back of the fender regardless of ride height. i'd recommend a 255/275 stagger on those wheels (and fender work)

Depends on the tire manufacturer .
A 255 alone on a 9 inch wide will look like a baloon tire, i don't want to imagine a 275 (unless it's a drag car).
That's what 245 direzza star specs look like on my 17 x 9 BBS RSs.
These are the 255s that were on it.
With fender modification the wheels should fit, but 275s go out the window for sure. Another question is, do you really have the horsepower to push 275s. I find GRIPPY 245 tires MORE THAN ENOUGH for my stockish 300 horsepower.
Too much tire will do more harm than good also for a daily driver by killing gas mileage (more friction with the road).

thanks for the help, two things I should have added.
the car is not lowered and has stock suspension and the car already has widebody front fenders, they are the ones that they sell on ebay so they are probably 25-30mm wider than stock. The rear fenders are stock.
I just bought the car and someone already installed the fenders. The car is in dire need of a paint job so I can do some work on massaging the rear fenders if need be.
Oh and just to confirm the bolt pattern on the FC RX-7 is 5 x 114 right? I have a 5 lug GTU

Yes 5 x 114 is correct.
Is it a GTU or a SE? Ether way like the other guys have said a 275 is way to big for your needs. Even with a highly modified N/A(unless your planning on a turbo or V8 swap), 245s all around should be plenty grippy enough.

The car is a stock N/a with a header and 130k miles, I know that I dont need more than a 185 tire realistically lol but you can't be picky when your buying used. I really like the wheels, though I do wish the tires were smaller, but hey if they will clear with only alittle work I'll buy them. I can alsways buy some 245's once these wear out.
Another question is I was eying a set of 17 x 7's with a +40mm offset. Will that look allright on the FC? I was thinking they may stick too far in? Thanks guys you have been a great help so far.

I think +40 is way too sunken in, either way.
It seems on the FC, you will need EVEN Wider of a wheel stance because you have front blister fenders and you probably will need to PULL AND ROLL the rears to match the look of the fronts (this is a bit of work, and you need the right person to do it).
If the offsets of these wheels are inadequate, i would recommend some hubcentric spacers (Powered by MAX are the ones i like). I am thinking somewhere in the range of 20-30 mm.
Given the car you have stated...I, personally, would be looking AT LEAST at some low offset 10 inch wides to fill that (even with a square tire).
If i were you: i would replace the tires on your stockers, and roll on them till you can properly make a game plan for your car's footwork. I.E: The tires that your car needs, the proper sized wheels, suspension, alignment, spacers etc to make everything work together. Each car is different, and what works for someone else's ride won't always work for yours.
Sometimes, just slapping on parts that are not right or made for your car are not the best way (the whole idea of aftermarket > stock). 275 tires are HUGE, and HEAVY. Unless you got a game plan for some power, i seriously doubt you will be able to push these heavy 275s with a stock S4 N/A without sucking out your gas tank. (i had an S5 N/A, so i know how gutless these cars can be).

It will fit in the back with a fender roll in the back.
There is no hope of fitting in the front. Biggest you will be able to go is 255/40/17.
It will looks great with those tires in the back, but as said above if you are looking for maximum cornering ability, you will probably have too much tire.
I run 17X9 +24 wheels all around, and 235/40/17s all around.
I just had to go down from 245/45/17s to 235/40/17s in the back. It does not look as good, but it got rid of the on power understeer I had, and the car gets through the gears better due to the lower final drive. I can also rotate the tires front to back now.

thanks for all the help guys, I think I will hold off on the wheels at this point until I sort out the suspension as far as what way I want to go.
I was going to go for all stock replacement to make a nice daily but I am now considering upgrading a little and possibly trying some auto crossing this summer just for fun, so I might just stick with a 15" wheel and tire or a 16" not sure yet. Thanks again though.
