fstfwd - in order to answer your question, I'm going to make some comparisons between the suspension of my 2 FDs.

FD #1 had ran Koni yellows with the PFS comfort springs and stock rims.
FD #2 has stock R1 shocks with H&R springs running 17s with 255s all around (SleepR1s car)

When I bought FD#2, Manny told me that he thought the Koni felt a little stiffer than the stock R1 shocks. I didn't really believe him, but after driving both cars back to back I do agree. The Koni doesn't soak up road shocks as well as the stock R1 shocks. Even with the larger rims, the ride just feels a little cushier than with the Konis. I guess you can say the Konis are a little stiffer. Then again, the Konis are a more performance oriented shock and will support a larger variety of spring rates and are height adjustable. The Konis also react more quickly overall which is nice and I like the ability to adjust the shocks when I finally get out on track or hit the autox.

I'm still undecided as to whether I'm going to install the Konis on FD #2 with the H&R springs. I might wait till next year or I might sell the Konis and spend the money on my upcoming honeymoon.

I also liked the PFS springs. A bit softer then the H&Rs but the lower the car less and provided nice ride quality and improved handling compared to stock springs on Koni shocks. Performance felt fine overall. The PFS springs seem to be progressive rate compared to the H&R so they are good on rough roads. I'm looking for a more track oriented setup now so I'm going to stick with the H&Rs.

I hope this was helpful to you. Let me know if you have any questions.

Also, a guy named Ron up in CT (I think his screen name is viperkiller) is selling his stock suspension from his 94/5 R1. His car was cherry and is low mileage. Not sure what your budget or intentions are, but I figured I'd throw that out there in case that was something you were looking for. I thought his car sat a little too high on the springs, but I'm not used to seeing an FD on stock springs anymore

Cheers.

Thanks for the info, this is what I've been looking for, someone who can compare the aftermarket to my stock setup.

John Magnuson, do u happen to have any pics of your car with both setups? curious how much of a drop the koni yellows gave on both the stock springs and the rsr's.
