Maximum Wheel and Tire Width Fitment Guide for the FD

The zII tires are damn near impossible to get. It seems only tire rack has them as the starspecs. I don't feel like paying for shipping and then a shop to mount separately, hard to get a deal. I found a local place to me where I could get the re11a 's for 750 out the door, or the new re71r for about 100 more. The car will mostly be street with a few track days a year so I think I'm gna go with re11a's. Should be all set monday.
They will get you the tires and mount them.
Last month I wanted a set of the previous model Rival's that were on sale at Tire Rack.
Discount Tire bought those tires from Tire Rack and sold them to me, at a good price.

I buy my tires from TIRE CENTRAL in San Gabriel. Always ends up costing less than tire rack overall with install and they usually stock tires.

Didn't want to make another thread and this is the only active thread ive seen lol, anybody can recommend me tire sizes for my Works VSXX? They're 18x10 offset 0 & 18x12 -2, I got a shine auto feed style front & rear fenders, I don't mind stretch but not a really stupid stretch, 245/35 or 40s for the fronts & 275 or 285/40 will it do? Don't really know much about tire sizes... Thanks!

You might try making a thread for this in the drift section as those guys will probably be more familiar with fitting the offsets you are working with and the over fenders.
using willtheyfit.com-
Front- it does look like you will want a 245 or 255 up front and lots of camber on a +30 overfender. Outside of wheel will be flush with +30 fender and the tire stretch will keep the tire from cracking the fragile fiberglass up. Functional fitment for drifting.
Rear- looks hopeless to me with just +30 fender as wheel is +60mm outside the stock body line. With enough stretch and camber and flexing the over fender out you might get the tire inside the fender and the wheel outside the fender. Rear will be a "stance" fitment as it won't be functional.
Maybe use Pettit or Ronin rear flares instead since they are more like +50-+60mm? I know, probably not the look you are going for...

I just ordered a package from Discount tires...TSW Valencia wheels.... front 8x18 et 40 with Nitto NT555 255x35x18 tires....rear 9.5x18 et 40 with Nitto NT555 275x35x18. I already rolled the front fenders (car has OZ Monte Carlo 8x17 et 37 with Toyo R1's 235x45x17 on it at present, Eblach springs lowered the car about 3/4 inch, stock brakes)....I didn't want to roll the rear, it may be close! I followed the fitment guide started on this tread (excellent job...thank you Flyweight!!). Any feedback on this set-up? I'll post my results, it may help someone....this fitment thing can be overwhelming, if you want to avoid mods and mistakes! The Discount Tire package included free mounting, balancing and shipping...with rebates it came to $1345.

I was reading stickies and postings about tire and wheel sizing in this forum and other sources for more than 5 month. I even read this thread and Jimlab's 3 times from page 1 to the last, but I cannot be sure.
According to Jimlab's Spread Sheet, my set up will be fine, but I want to make sure the fitting.
I ordered wheels and tires from discounttire.com as previous member posted, and I read from somewhere that the member's setup fits without a problem. However, my set up is little bit different.
93 FD Stock body with Tein Coilover will be fitted after the wheels and tires.
Front: 18 x 9.5 +45 245/40/18 Dunlop
Rear : 18 x 9.5 +45 275/35/18 Dunlop
Anyone can tell me that would be fine with stock body with Tein Coilovers?
If I have to roll the fenders, it will be hard to attach the liners?
Thanks.

Do a barrel roll!

You should be fine, but you went a bit tall with the tires. A 255/35 would have been a better fit. the 245/40 is 7/10s taller. Your front tire is actually slightly taller than the rear. But.. Shouldnt have an issue clearing depending on ride height and camber settings. FYI I think a moderate roll on the front is almost a "must do", no matter what size. It doesnt take much effort and will save you a munched fender.

I agree with Rxmfn7. the 275x35 sits nice on a 9.5 rim, maybe a 265x35x18... that will give you a diameter of 25.3" , the 275x35x18 has a diameter of 25.5" (stock is 25") so the diameters are close and so are the side walls. What type of rims did you get?

I've searched and cant find a definite answer ....
"feed" front fenders, Origin rear over fenders
i want to run 285 series tires on all 4 corners, and i cant find or figure out the right offset that would work front and rear, 18x10(.5) Evasive Motorsports | PH: 626.336.3400 Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm PST: M.C.O Racing Type CS
is the rims im thinking about using. with either R6 or R888 tires.
thank you oh so very much!

I could not get the TSW because of the offset.
My fenders and suspensions are stock, but I fit Konig instead.
Another problem that I have now is the front tires rubbing inner side of fender liner, right behind the coolant reservoir and washer reservoir.
I was using heat gun to reshape the liner, but no luck.
I know that the tires that I have is too tall with tall treads.
I will try to have coilover first to see if I can play with camber for now.
Thanks.

Like I said in my post.... fronts...18x8 (or 8.5) et40, tire Nitto NT555 255x35x18....rear...18x9.5 et40, tire Nitto NT555 275x35x18. This fitment worked perfect, no rubbing anywhere, lots of room for big brakes and coil-overs.... and the stagger looks good, not overdone!
You are absolutely right,,,
I went to Americastire and they will switch my front rims and tires for free.
I know the tires would be cheaper now because I was from Dunlop DZ102 245/40/18 to 235/40/18.
Now my spec is:
Front: 18 x 8 35, 235/40/18
Rear : 18 x 9.5 45, 275/35/18
Do I better get 18 x 8 with 45 offset instead of 35?
Guys at the americastire says that 45 offset would not fit and 35 is recomended.
I was trying to push 255/35/18 for the exchange of the front, but they said it is not the size for the 18 x 8 rims. (I know you put it on already, maybe they don't have those in stock.)
Anyway, can you please verify the sizes are good this time?
Please, consider that I will get coilovers after the rims and tires.
Thanks in advance!!!

The stock wheel is 16x8 with an offset of 50. So for an 18x8 (the exact same width as stock), wouldn't the ideal offset be 50, so as to keep the steering rotation center in the center of the tire? I would discuss this with the guy at America's Tire as 45 is closer to 50 than 35. Sounds to me like he is trying to sell some wheels.
I even showed him this thread that 18 x 8 with 255/35/18 fitment had been confirmed, but the guy at americastire looked into his screen and 35 offset with 235/40/18.

I was told a 255 wouldn't fit an 8in rim.... (255 fits an 8.5 nice)...another said .5in wouldn’t make a big difference on the rim, the wheel I wanted didn't come in a 8.5in so went ahead and tried the 255 on the 8in rim....it fit the car and the rim nice (et 40)...a good straight side wall....don't like to stretch a tire on the rim because it's too easy to rub a curb with the rim and the ride gets a little stiff. The stock offset is 50, so a 45 or 35 should work, the 35 will move the wheel 15mm closer to the strut than stock et 50 so it will give you more fender clearance, if you don't plan on rolling the front fenders this may be important, the 45 will be close but should clear a non-rolled fender. Either way there's plenty of clearance inside between the tire and strut if you want to go coil-over later. Good luck!

Yes, I do not want to roll the fenders.

235/40-18 should be ~20mm narrower, which buys you 10mm vs. my 255s, but your offset cuts that to 5mm. And 235/40-18 is 1/2" taller than my 255s were.
I think you should go 225/40-18 instead. OEM type fit on 8" wheel, so not stretchy at all. Shorter and narrower, shouldn't need to roll fenders on 18x8 +35.

You might rub without a fender roll. I was running 255/40-17s up front on +40 wheels, and I tweaked the fender lip. Fortunately didn't do anything major, I had the fenders rolled after that. Now running 245/40-17s which are a better fit on my 17x8.5 wheels anyway.

I think I can talk to the americastire guys when they are installing it.
I should get the coilovers done before the install to make sure the fitment without fender rolling.
Thanks for the fast reply!

I wouldn't worry about the tire stagger. On 18x8" +35 the obvious tire size choice is 225/40-18 for the front. The effects of tire stagger on handling balance are often greatly overestimated, particularly for a street car.
