Max width tire for SSR Comps. 17X8.5

Searched and came up empty handed.

Right now I'm sitting at 225/45/17, but that's the stock size (this if for my Audi, and you guys are far more helpful than the Audi forums are), on a 7.5" rim.

I'm bound to be able to get a larger footprint on a rim that's 1" wider.

I'm pretty dumb to the math of this, so any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

-E

US-version, 9.5 x 17, 42-mm offset. Will fit up front with 255/40-17, so you can run them all the way around...

Um...okay.

The wheels are 17X8.5, not 9.5.

And tirerack recommends the stock tire size, 225/45/17.

So...I'm back where I started, which is why I posted here.

Any other takers?

Okay, I've now seen folks running 235/40/17 and 245/40/17.

Any thoughts on those sizes?

Technically, you could run a 255/40 17 on that rim, but 245/40 is probably a better choice. However, I have no idea about clearance issues on an Audi.

Oh, Tire Rack is conservative. 255/40-17 on 9.5 x 17, 42-mm offset will work. They show the 9.5 x 17 as a rear fitment only option.

If you want, run a staggered fitment. 235/45-17 on 8.5 x 17, and 265/40-17 on 9.5 x 17. Those are Tire Rack acceptable fitments.

Oops, this for an Audi?! Sorry, I have no clearance knowledge of the Audi. I was giving you data for the FD Rx7s! Sorry!
