Kumho MX tires
#26
I've now competed on the MX in the rain too. They worked great. I normally run on race rubber but two weeks ago I ran the MX in the dry and this past weekend I ran them in the wet. Still happy with them.

Running the 225/50/16 Kumho MX I was able to corner over 1.1g while being able to maintain over 1 g through entire turns according to my Geez! datalogger. Car is stock other than Konis and Tripoint front bar. On good R compound tires the car normally pulls close to 1.3 g.
Hell, even in the wet I pulled over .9 g on the MX!

this just in...
I'm running the Kumho MX 240/40/17 as street tires, and just spent the day on the track with them. It's my first time on the track with this car, and the first time in several years that I've not been on R-compound tires. Damn! Good grip, didn't get greasy on me (ambient temps about 55 F) during 25 minute sessions when I was working them pretty good. They are full depth, no chunking.
For the price, and the way they handle water, these are good street tires!

I just replaced all of the tires with a new set of Kumho MX. I only got 11,000 miles out of the first set but keep in mind my alignment is setup for race tires. That means I eat street tires much faster than I should. All the negative camber and toe wore the inner third of the tires down to nothing and the outer third had about 40% of it's tread left yet.
I think most people with sane street alignments should see 15,000 miles unless you constantly light them up.

Hey guys... very helpful thread... I'm basically set on getting these as my next tires.
However, Damon, you mentioned that at cold temps, close to freezing, they don't grip well. I do like to drive my car around in the winter months, as long as the roads are clean. I won't take it out much below freezing, but it's not uncommon to have taken it out on a cold day and get in it late at night (like after a movie) and it's like 30 degrees out. Will I be in a dangerous situation trying to get home?
