i am in between tires right now also, and want the 712's and from what i hear they last prety good. like 280 treadwear or so. i like em cause they are cheap, like 100 for 17's b/c i go through tires every 6k miles.

We sell tires and come across this question all the time. If you're looking for lifespan and inexpensive tire, get a Kumho 712=280 AA or a Nitto=300 AA.
Hands down the S-02 is a far better handling tire than either of those, but at the same time you sacrifice lifespan. A better comparison would be the S-02 to the Yok AVS Sport or Michelin Sport or SP8000 or AVS Intermediate or Kumho VICTORACERS, get my drift.
The Intermediates are damn cheap now too. I'd buy them just cause they handle so good and are so cheap.
As for the Yok A520, they are a 180 treadwear and will therefore not last long. The Yok Parada would be a longer lasting tire and claims to have good performance as well and cheap too.
Hope this was helpful,

I've had the 712's for approximately a year now in the 235/40/17" size on 17x8" rims all around. They've worn exceptionally well, are superb in the rain, VERY quiet and are much better than the A520's (which I've also used). Construction is lighter on the 712's than the A520's by a substantial margin (not sure what the weight difference was offhand).
After a year/20K miles or so, straight line acceleration traction has suffered somewhat...then again I'm WAY under-tired for the modifications I'm currently running. I cost were an object, I would not hesitate to purchase these tires again (in a wider size). FWIW, Kumho will be releasing a new, Max Perf tire (dry handling) to compete with anything out there. Basically a much less expensive G-Force T/A. Their price/performance ratio should be comperable to the 712's meaning they won't cost you $350 a tire in an 18" size. I believe they'll start arriving in January. This came straight from their motorsports director.

It looks like I'll buy a set of Kumho 712 tomorrow. They get almost as good survey rating for dry performance and much better wet and wear ratings than SP8000 and are cheaper. I'd like RE730's, but a set mounted runs about $175 more than the 712's. Does anyone have feedback on Kumho versus Zeix 502's?

Just got a set for my FC, they look great, cool tread and nice sidewall. They are a bit noisier than I expected. Haven't had them out in the rain yet, but on dry pavement they seem pretty good.
