Kuhmo MX's, best choice?

Need new tires.

Thinking Kuhmo MX, 235/40/17 and 255/40/17.

I've run T1S's on other cars and really like them but this will be a dry weather car only.

Priced them 4, out the door, for $630.

Anything else I can find close to that?

Best choice for the money? Dry weather only so I might even look at something more aggressive.

Only care that they last 10-12K miles and 2-3 track days.

You could do the Toyo T1-S's for around that price or cheaper:

Just wanted to input that your front tire size should be 235/45 17, not 235/40 17.

I run the kumho MX and I quite like it. Once they get shaved down a bit their pretty sticky. Kinda feel strange in the rain, but nothing uncontrollable.

I use the 235/45/17 and 255/40/17

Yeah.. I noticed that new, my MX's were pretty greasy.. after a few miles on them they got a lot stickier.. and they really get grippy if you let 'em down to about 25 PSI and do a nice burnout to heat 'em up!!!!!

I've also noticed that road temps play a BIG part.. Now that it's above 60 degrees during the day here and the asphalt temps are over 70 in the sun.. they REALLY hook up on the back roads

I bet in summer, when the road temps get up over 100 degrees on the asphalt, they are going to be really nice!!!!! I read somehwere that optimum grip temp for most "summer Tires" is about 130 degrees on the tire surface...

I ran MXs on my MKIV Supra, a 285-40-18 does not spin in first, or second @450ftlbs! They do need a little extra pressure if you are going to track day/AX, but they are definitely up to it, I went to RA1s, but I am no longer daily driving that car.

Great tires for the money! Much better than the 712 Kumho's.

Kumho MX

these are an excellent low budget max performance tire. perfect for a street driven 7. only last 10-15K but grip great, feel great and smoke great.

only thing i would warn against is their cold weather grip. the tire performs great on asphalt above 40F. this is a crappy winter tire (Duh).

I've had a couple sets of MXs on two different cars and really liked them both times. IMO, for the money, nothing comes close with the exception of Falken Azenis. But the Kumho has much better wet traction that the Falken could ever dream of.

i paid 670 for my set of T1-S in the same sizes i think.

its true that the T1-S is excellent in the rain. but i think they are comparable to the MX on the dry. either choice is good i think.

Ive finally had my MX's on the car for a few days and they are great tires.
Ive run Azenis and AO32R and S03's on other cars before so I have something to compare the MX's to.

the MX's are a great tire, I dunno if the new style Azenis is similar, I'm curious though.

285's out back and 275''s up front = mucho grippo
