i can't make up my mind so i figured i would ask you guys..

i current have ccw's classics with hyper black centers. i love the wheels, they look good and i get a lot of complements on them but i found a set of VOLK TE37's in magnesium blue that i can't stop thinking about along with some other wheels like the CE28's and ADVANS RS's, the only problem with these wheels is that they don't come any wider than 10" and 10.5" and I'm looking for 11.5 :/.. what to do?!

Ditch the CCW's and sell them to me CHEAP! In all honesty, not a fan of the look of the CCW's but they are great track wheels. I would get the Volks for the street or would have kept the SSR's.

 

Car looks killer with the CCWs. I used to have them on my FD and am still a hug fan. No offense, but IMO those SSRs looks terrible on your car. Ok maybe not "terrible", but just very cheap and generic compared to the CCWs. Im a big fan on the 1 piece lighter wheels like the CE28N, and will be going that route in my FD build because I am concentrating on reducing as much weight as I can, and wont have a "ton" of power with my N/A build, but for your car I think the CCWs fit nicely. Only ones I would even consider would be the TE-37s, and even then it would depend of the size and offset, because most likely fitment for an FD wont have much concave-ness to the wheels, which is where they really start to look good. Personally I think you just have an itch to get something new.. remember the old "grass is always greener on the other side thing"

 

I'll give you a deal on some SSR Type Fs. Most of your problems solved.

-Best widths for a Japanese racing wheel (18 x 11 + 21)
-Available in 2 types of blue (lighter or dark), extra charge though for this.
-Bigger brake clearance than the CE28N.
-Still lightweight and forged
-I used to work at SSR, so i will give you the best price.

Only few drawbacks, they are special order, and have to be new. Still might be cheaper than cast advans.

I agree! Those look far better than anything in volks lineup imo. If you must change why not go with some 1 piece ccw's? They wont take 6 months to get and no worries on width or offset.

Did ccw do the centers in hyper black? I'm having a set of classics put together right now and really like the looks of those.

 

I still think you should have gone with the JLines.

 

if the intent is only for looks... keep the ccws

 

Whichever route you end up taking, you may want to look into a more 'flush' look on the rears. The way they stick out right now looks kinda odd, no offense

 

hehe i dont have an itch to spend any more money on the car i just think that it would like a lot better with some japanese wheels. i've been looking at some of the other members FD's with ssr's and volk's and they look killer. the TE37's that i found are 10.5 +15 so they are very concave

i totally agree with you. i spoke to ccw about it and they said that they will fix it for free so if i do keep the wheels i'm going to take care of it.

I don't think the wheels match the personality of the car. I personally would get rid of the CCW's. They look amazing on stock body Rx-7s, but they're more of an American car wheel IMO.

I would suggest a set of Japanese wheels that flow. Get the proper offsets and lower it a tad then you'll be set.

 

I love your car with either but I prefer the SSRs...

 

I think having the offset on the rears re-done would be the ticket. Other than that they look great. I would not regret leaving the 19s, the 18s look great.

 

I love black center ccw's and I don't like even spoke wheels. For some strange reason I only really like odd spoke wheels.

I think the ccw's go with the aggressiveness of the rest of the car.

If you're asking the question I think you've already made up your mind that you don't want the ccw's anymore...I think we've all had that feeling before.

I think you should keep the CCWs and pick up another set with a different design. Change the rims whenever you need a change in attitude...

If anything, the ccw's classic looks a lot like a German BBS style design. That being said, japan makes plenty of mesh wheels as well. See VS-XX, Racing Hart c2, SSR Professor, just off the top of my head.

I wasn't aware there was a "Japanese style" to wheels. Most of the Japanese wheels are copies (albeit, not exact, but similar style wise) of some other wheel already out there. There really are only so many ways to make a wheel look good (Heavy mesh vs light mesh, 4 spoke, 5 spoke, 6 spoke, 7 spoke, etc etc) and simply put, the Japanese were the last to the party. By that point, all of the good looking design styles were already created, leaving the Japanese companies the ability to simply copy and slightly alter the existing designs.

The only wheels Id say were "Japanese" were the weird ones that only the American "JDM 4 lyfe!" people seem to like. Most of those seem to have not sold well even in Japan.

I say keep the CCW's. Especially if your alternative is the SSR's. Those SSR's look terrible on your car, at least in that picture. FD's need wheels with at least a decent sized lip on them.

 

The japanese were the first to invent 3 piece wheels.

The rest were the late ones. The CCWs are hideous on the FD. They belong on more old school, boxy cars.

The LM20s/Classics look good on say a Supra or R32 Skyline GT-R. I am a big CCW fan as well, just not on certain FDs.

 

I've never been a fan of CCW classics, for anything other than track wheels. To me, they look sort of "home made" and the centers are too small. Those SSR's are nice looking, if a little plain. If you like the look of the CCW's and have the cheeze, get a similar set of Fikse's with custom centers.

I think your classics look much better in person, however, I do think better options exists for your car too. The way the rear sticks out bothers me, especially since your running -2.5* or more already - that is my biggest gripe. The issue you face with a lot of these other wheels is like you said, they don't make them bigger then 10", which at most can only accommodate a 295 tire. Here is what I think would set your car off:

Not sure how I feel about the te's, they look SICK with the concave finish on some cars, I just dont like how they look on a FD. Mag blue would be unique, I just dont know.


ccw lm20 would be a nice choice, not sure how much different they are then the classics


I personally believe 19" bbs lm's would be money, since it is a step lip, the face doesn't appear to be 19". Sometimes I regret not putting them on my car, they are very expensive new but can be had relatively cheap second hand.


Always thought the bbs gt2 wheels were pretty nice too

i'm running .5* of camber in the back.. doesn't really matter they still stick out. lol
i can get this fix at no cost but i just feel like the ccw's dont go with my car at all.. they look great on stock FD's
another thing is that i need a 18 inch wheel so i can run drag radial tires..

what wheels are on the blue FD under the afflux add?

 

Those are advans, but they are cast and only go up to 10 inches wide.

Bryan, the wheels on Ken's FD are MS1s not LM9s. The LM9s don't have the step lip.
