JIF FLT-A2 FD Installation Question

I just installed the JIC FLT-A2's on the rear, but they didn't come with any rubber to install between the shock and the car body. My old rubber didn't look like it would fit either. Is there some part I should buy? I've seen mention of "pillow mounts". Is this what I need. I drove the car with my Tokico's up front and the JIC's in the back, and there is an amazing improvement over the Tokico's in the rear.

So the rear shocks came with upper mounts but the fronts did not? It seems like you might have received an incomplete set.

No rubber pieces are needed. The JIC's mount directly to the chassis.

Hey Eric

Are you running the JIC FLT-A2?

If you are then how do you like them?

Thanks,

I am running the FLT-A2's on my FD. I'm very happy with them. Install was extremely easy, the height adjustment on the bottom of the shocks are the key. The quality of the kit is unbelievable. I actually compared a set of these next to three other coilover kits. The JIC's blew the others away. The biggest difference was not only was the quality better, but I live in Socal, and can take the shocks over to Ziel and have them rebuilt to my specs. You can't do that with any other coilover kit from Japan. Before deciding on the JIC's I was very skeptical of Japanese coilover kits. I believe alot of suspension setups rely on the "tuning" of the kits. Also the JIC's do you give you the best coilovers for the money. Unless your willing to spend around $4000 for Penskes, I don't think the JIC's have any competition. The kit is a little stiff for my liking, but I can always adjust the spring rates. I was recommended 12kg front and 9kg rears, so that's what I have. Consult with Rishie on what would be best for you driving.

Rx7-AIII the spring rates are interchangeable. You choose the rates you want, and can have the valving of the shocks adjusted as well. I personally don't know enough about the intricacies of suspension tuning, so I went with recommended settings.

dcarrol,

Please take pics of the set so we can see what's going on. The damper and spring should be already setup. If the spring is remaining around the damper and not falling off then you must have an upper shock mount which can bolt right into the vehicle. If you show me pics I'll be able to tell. If you're talking about a rubber gasket to go between the aluminum shock mount, with the bolts in it, and the car then that won't be needed.

Eric

Thanks for the feedback.

The catalog I have calls out 10k/8k front and rear and Rishie told me that it's equal to 550 f/450 r so your set-up is about 660 f/500 r. Have you set the shocks to the softest setting and how does compare to the stock shock? Is it softer or harder than stock?

Sorry about all the questions

Thanks

The new rates are 12kg and 9kg I'm sure. I just spoke to JIC. They had 10 and 8 but are different now. They've gone back and forth R & D these. That would be around 675 and 500 respecitively.

We had a few 10's and 8's, but to my surprise they have been changed to 12 and 9. I've been told that at a setting of one or two it is comparable to the R1 suspension on the FD, but more solid and comfortable feeling.

Thanks, Rishie

The ride is stiffer than stock. Anytime you upgrade your suspension, it's not going to be softer than stock. Honestly when I purchased the JIC's I was really skeptical of the high spring rates. I live in Los Angeles and we have some pretty bad roads/freeways. I'm really surprised on the comfort level of the shocks. It is stiffer than stock by a good margin, but not uncomfortable. The major selling point of these coilovers, is that I can go to Ziel and have them change the springs and valving of the shocks whenever I want. No one else offers this in the U.S. for the price range. I do however have to get the car corner weighted and balanced, but I'm very happy with my ride level now. I took my car from Los Angeles to San Jose (bay area) a couple of weeks ago and was completely happy with the ride quality. YMMV.

ERIC is so right. That's why we decided to carry the product so heavily as well. It's real simple, they can produce or repair whatever you want that's made by JIC. Great product.

Eric, you're awesome. It's nice to get consumer feedback as people always think I am biased when that's so far from the truth. My suggestions are based on the clients functions and my personal "***" riding experience.

thanks so much,

Rishie

Rishie- I bought the coilovers after listening to your advice on JIC. I actually looked at 4 different setups (in person), and found the JIC the best for me. Honestly the quality of the JIC's are astounding. I found that the others were not built as well and did not match up in quality/features just from looking at them. Now all I have to do is finish my suspension so I can get some track time in.

****, really. That's awesome. You're the icing on my cake. That's way more than I expected and I'm pleased that it worked for your functions. The road can only get funner from here. hehe.

It's been amazing in every application we've done. You're so lucky to be in LA, BTW. Got to look at four setups in person, and probably get a killer deal too. hehe.

thanks, Rishie

Thanks guys. I was concerned that there's no rubber between the coilover and the car, but they seem to be great. I love these shocks compared to the Tokico's.
