HPDE and rear brakes

I've got a stock S5 TII with EBC green pads on all 4 corners. The fronts are less then 20% so I'm going to replace them with EBC yellow pads since I plan on doing my first HDPE event next year. My question is should I be worried about getting a better break pad for the rear (more then 50% left) before a track day or do rears not experience the same levels of heat and wear as the fronts? How quickly does a HDPE destroy non-track rear pads?

I ran many track days with Hawk HP+ pads in front and some run of the mill brake pads from Kragen auto parts (now renamed O'Reilly auto around here) in the rear. I never experienced any weird braking issues from the rear. This was on my FD so your results may vary. Get some good brake fluid like ATE Racing Blue in there as well. Don't forget to bed the pads in properly or you'll get brake fade at the track.

What size and type of tire are you running? How much power? Like wan said, go with HP+ and ATE fluid at the minimum, and you should be fine.

I ran the HPS on the track before in my stockish TII and the pads left a lot to be desired.

The car is stock power and wheel size. I plan on getting some Star Spec tires this winter as well. I plan on upgrading the rear pads as soon as they are gone. I just wanted to make sure that wasn't going to happen in the first 30 minutes. I'll just have to keep an eye on them

I'm going to do brake fluid as well. I thought I'd read good things about Motorcraft DOT3 fluid when fresh.

do a little searching, this has just come up recently

but

most of the racers run an aggressive pad in the front and stock rears. either the bias is odd or the fronts fade faster on the FC

I had tried and searched but didn't find much on rear brake pads and burn rate. I know the Hawk HP+ and Carbotech XP8s are highly recommended. From what I found on here about EBC Yellows they don't dust or eat rotors as bad the Hawks, but can still take the higher temps. It'll be my first event and I need new front brakes anyway. I just don't want to fry a set of street pads or put myself in danger.

on a front engine RWD car most of the braking is done by the front.

and if its your first HPDE event, you shouldn't be going that fast anyways, learn the car and proper line at the track, and THEN go fast.
