How practical are 19" wheels?

How practical are 19" wheels?

Recently, I been noticing a lot of FD3S gracing the covers of magazines such as HCI, Super Street, and the most recent issue (April '04) of Import Tuner. They all sport 19" wheels. The owner of the Nitrous Express FD3S at the latest SEMA show stated that he drove the RX7 on a daily basis on those 19" wheels. My question is: has anyone or does anyone have 19"wheels and do they experience any fitment issues with them? Are there any special modifications you have to do to accomodate those 19" wheels?

have had them before.

it's a rough ride for everyday purposes... even with stock suspenson. pothole=dinger in your pretty new wheels.

they look good, but for everyday driving (5 days plus) i'd stick to something 18 and below.

if you are racing (1/4) they will actually hurt your times because of the drag.

AS FOR YOUR QUESTION (sorry, i get carried away)
with the correct tires, the only issue you may have is some inner fender rubbing when your wheels are FULLY turned.
(if you have stock suspension)

I have some advice for you that you should really consider taking.

Stop looking at import tuning magazines for ideas of what to do to your car. At the very least, don't believe anything that you read in those mags. The few I've looked at had such gross inaccuracies, I actually laughed out loud.

19s are not practical for street use. Many of us would argue that 18s are not practical for street use.

The new Nitrous Express car is crock of ****.. NO way that thing will pull 800HP at the rear wheels.. Maybe one pull on the dyno.. I'll be EXTREMEly impressed if it does two pulls at 800RWHP.

Friend of mine whos doing 20B here in town is thinking of doing 19's.. I'm so against it.. 18 will be the max.. I have 235/40/18s in the front and its perfect.. i could go slightly wider.. but 19's.. no way... unless you keep it stock height..

Its definitely not daily wheels.. you pretty much trail your car to a show and never driving on them.. I'm running 99 rims as daily..

I never considered putting 19's on my FD3S. 18's at the most. I'm just so in awe that an FD owner would consider or put 19's on their ride. It looks great to have 19's but damn...it must be a harsh ride!!!! In San Jose, Ca, where potholes are as common as 7Eleven, 19's on my FD would be so thrashed!!!

19z

hey i have 19z on my car, they came on the car if i had the choice though definatley dont get them .now ive had the chance to drive around on them for a while i want 18nz,reasons are-they follow the road really badly as i have only 1 hand available to steer with this is rather dodgey. This also destroys how much fun the 7 could be as your constantly are corecting where you are going, high speeds are asking for problems.
i hear allot of people sayin how harsh the ride is well i dunno what there standards are but to me its absoloutely fine and or roads in nz are sh@t,little more care needed mayb but im used to it.

Anyways im definatley selling my 19nz and getting some nicer 18nz which i aint afraid to drift with

-sorry about spellin and writing been a while scince i typed -
oh i have ohlins suspension as per ride questions
