Homemade Brake Backing Plate
Well, here it is. Homemade brake backing plate.
I'll be tracking my car this year and I'm trying to keep costs down. So instead of spending $250 on backing plates and having to take the wheel hub apart I decided to break out the trusty tin snips and get to cutting. Here are the results. Be nice fellas, and consider the cost.
Cost:
Tin Snips: $7
Hose Clamp: $1
I'm pretty sure the way I am holding the hose clamp with the metal will have to be redone as it will probably crack with a little fatigue. It will be easy enough to use the ABS bolt to mount a bracket to hold the hose instead of the way I have it right now. The mount will probably be formed out of thin steel sheet metal and will be a 3" diameter tube about 2" long for the hose to to over with a mounting tab at the terminal end.should be able to direct the air very nicely with that.
But this should work for a little while, at least better than the stock backing. The rest of the ducting will be the same as everyone else that has brake ducting, high temp hose and some sort of duct at the front.
Thoughts?
