Front coilovers only?

Front coilovers only?
I'm going to sound extremely ignorant in this thread, but I'd rather ask and know than remain clueless...
I've noticed that when fitting suspension, some tuners opt for putting coilovers only on the front of the vehicle, while using springs in the back. Is there a benefit to this? I've noticed a lot of Corolla guys doing such espescially, so I was thinking it might have something to do with drifting, but that's just me having no idea and trying to form a connection through stereotype. Haha...
So yeah, why just the fronts?
Thanks
