Fiske wheel questions

Hi, I'm interested in finding a light wheel with the correct offsets so the tires don't tare my fenders out.

I like the look of the FM 10 Fiske wheel. Does anybody know the weights for 17 inch front and rear? Also I was wondering the correct offsets and tire sizes that work.

If anybody had pictures of another wheel selection that works correctly I'm very interested.

thanks

Thumbs up

I have a set of Fikse FM5s (17 x 10 rear, 17 x 8.5 front)on my car, and am more than satisfied with them. They went on without any problem, and just clear the fender lips with the offset recommended by Fikse. But they DO NOT rub. And they fill the fender wells nicely.

Another nice feature is that the modular rivets/bolt heads are on the inside of the wheel, so you won't have to use a toothbrush to clean around them when you clean the wheels.

I believe unladen (no tires) weight for the wheels were something like 14 lbs. for the fronts, 17.5 lbs. for the rear. Not the absolute lightest wheels around, but definitely the strongest, and one of the highest quality around.

Yeah, I remember I had to wait about that long to get'em, from order to ship. But they were worth the wait.

Forgot to mention one thing: they are a mite pricey compared to other wheels...

Depends on the widths? 9 x 17, 45-mm FM-10s weight 17 to 18 lbs as I recall from Fritz Flynn, who's FM-10s are for sale BTW

9.5 x 17, 50.4-mm offset all around with 255/40-17 will work beautifully. You can rotate tires, and you preserve the FD's balanced handling.

The fronts must be narrow to be that light? What are the widths and offsets?

Perhaps I could be mistaken. Maybe the fronts (17 x 8.5) were 17.5 lbs., and the rears may be even heavier.

I've got FM5's also, don't know the weights of the FM10.

My rears wheels are 17x10, weighed at the Post Office with center cap, valve stem and valve stem cap, NO PACKAGING. 20lbs 3oz IIRC.

I didn't weigh the fronts.

On Sleep R1s comments about the balanced handling with staggered wheels... Here is some info.

On the street I run 17x8.5 fronts w/235/45/17s and 17x10 rears with 275/40/17.

For auto-x I run 245/45/16 Kuhmo V700 all the way around on stock wheels.

The street set-up understeers. GAB R shocks with Eibach springs, stock sway bars. Shock setting on 1.

The auto-x set-up oversteers ever so slightly. Shock setting is 4 on front 2 on rear. Tire pressure, I'm forgetting, adjusted to reduce oversteer also.

I think the car understeers a little too much on the street, although it certainly is the safe way to have a street car setup. I like the fact that I can just change wheels and tires and have the "ideal" auto-x set-up.

Yeah, this is why for those of us who use ONE set of wheels for autocross, drivers eds, and street, the 9.5 x 17, 50.4-mm offset with 255/40-17 is THE way to go... My personal favorites are ARO and Mach V, both are now dubbed, "Classic". Check out Fikse's new Profil lineup (pronounced, "pro-feel") on www.fikse.com

my friend Craig has a set of FM10's, 17 x 8.5 and 17 9.5 or 10 I believe and they are comparable to the stock rim wieghts... his car is the one on thier site... (http://www.fikse.com/yourcar/street24.html ) even though it says 18" they are 17"

I'm pretty sure that the weights Kento said are close... however... they are pricey and you DO have to wait on them... they do look really good though.

Rikki is a good one to talk to... PFS has good prices on them

I myself am torn between FM10's, FM5's or SSR Comps

Last thing I bought from/through PFS was the first GB on the Fikses. Was one of the best things I ever did. Click on the link in the sig line. You might not like them, but I have never seen a rounder wheel. Neither has my tire-guy.

Oh yeah, my rears weighed in at 17.75 lbs each (bare, nekked, no stems), the fronts were a little lighter, but I never wrote down their weight. How did someone get close to 20lbs on thiers?!

I had the SSR Comps in 8.5 x 17 fr and 9.5 x 17 rr. 8.5 x 17, weighed 15 lbs, 9.5 x 17 weighed 16 lbs; both were 42-mm offset; Lightest wheel I've ever had! Next time, 9.5 x 17, 42-mm offset all around with Hoosier 245/40-17. They'll fit. I tried 275/40-17 Hoosier on 9.5 x 17 up front with no rubbing.

thank you

Thank you so much for all the help. I really appreciate it.

I very much like the look of those FM10 s on that red Rx-7 on the Fiske site. I suppose I may be able to deal with the few extra lbs over the stock set up. My car actually has the original set of Bridgestone S01 s on it, with about 60% of the tread left. I should tuck those up in the attic for collector value.

I wonder how much the 1999 Rx-7 five spoke wheels weight? I'm into this weight issue since my car is fairly stock and doesn't have all the extra HP to rotate extra mass.

KN air filter
Down pipe, matched and polished inside.
welds ground flush inside stock exhaust
230HP(cold day) at rear wheels, sorry no big numbers LOL

other than the introduction of 19's what's the difference btwn the profil and classic line? i.e., the profil 10 looks just like the fm10.

The FM10's, IMHO, are the best looking wheels ever made.

Subtle differences in appearance. New design technology. Perhaps just some excuse to charge more for their wheels

well reading that, i can see that this new line is light years better than the classic line. the old line is total crap compared to this. whoever has a set of the shitty fm10s has got to sell them to me for really cheap. you need to get rid of that pos and get the profil 10s.
