FD Tire sizes

Hey looking at some new tires for the rx

just wondering if the
195/50R16 85V will fit alright on the car

195 is a really low profile I was just wondering if there are any negative effects when getting such a low profile.

I curently have the stock sise 225/50. Will the 195 tires profile make a huge noticable difference?

regards

I'm confused. 195/50R16 seems awfully narrow a tire to put on the stock 16x8 rim. I don't consider it to be a "low profile", more like an ill fitting tire for the rim. I think of "low profile" to be a tire that has an aspect ration of 40 or less.

If you need to replace tires, I'd suggest sticking with something closer to the stock tire size. If you want a low profile tire, go with a 17" or 18" rim.

But then I really don't know what I'm talking about...

Why would you want to decrease traction on your car? I 195 is getting into commuter car territory. I have that on my 100hp Saturn.

Low profile refers to the middle number or aspect ratio
a 225/45/16 is a lower profile than a 225/50/16

a 195/50/16 is a narrower tire than a 225/50/16

Dont go below a 225

That is over an inch narrower than stock.

I suggest going to this Tirerack.com page and reading it. You'll get lots of good general information on tire sizing and how to read tire markings. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=46

Yes, 245/45 will fit. Also, 225/50-16 is the size of the stock tires.

You need to study up on what the numbers on the tire stand for before just buying some tires. Here's an example:

225/45-16
225 is the width in mm. or converted to inch's it is 225/25.4=8.86in
45 is the aspect ratio of the width, ex. 225*0.45=101.25mm(this is the sidewall height)
16 is of course the rim size.

255/45-16
255mm wide or 10.04in
255*0.45 = 114.75mm

If I was you I would just get the stock size or 245/45 as these are the most common and I'm assuming you are doing any kind of competition events. Good luck finding a 255/40 or 255/45 in a 16 because TireRack doesn't have any and a 255/50 is to tall.

arent the stock tires.
225/50 ?

id assume that a 225/50 would have a larger profile then a 225/45 would

He was using that as an example
Stock tires are 225/50/16

You dont want to go any higher than a 50 aspect or any smaller than a 225 width on our cars.

This link will allow you to see how different sizes affect the over size of the wheel and your speedometer. I highly recommend reading up on the basics of tires before going any further.

Jeez,
You don't need to study too much for this choice. There are only two really viable options for stock FD wheels:

225/50/16 (stock size)
245/45/16 (popular upgrade)

Don't buy 195/50's, don't stuff 255's on there (unless they are an extra set w/ drag radials), and don't over think this. There are two choices, pick one.
