FD Coilover Options
Hi,
Can someone give me some info. I am gonna buy some Tein SS coilovers. There are the ones with pillow ball upper mounts. Is there any advantage to these? I am not really going to track the car. Just looking for something better than stock.

Tein SS is a good coilover, however I think it's a little too high on the spring rate for a street car. Are you set on getting coilovers? The reason I ask is that you can get a good shock/spring combo which will give you good handling with something a little more "comfy" for the street. i.e. what are you looking to achieve with your suspension upgrade?

Does the search function not work for you on this board?

If you are only going to use it for the street than I suggest a a set of shocks and ground control springs. This way you have suspension that is great for daily use/street/comfortable and you have the ability to adjust your ride height like coilovers. Will be cheaper than the Tein SS as-well.

The Koni's have an adjustable perch for 3 heights, as well as dampening adjustability.

I was able to get the Tien SS with 8Kg front and 6Kg rear Tien springs (per Howard's recommendation).

I have Tein Flex with spring rates of
10k/8k on special.
The Tein SSP doesn't appear to be offered for FD anymore.
http://www.tein.com/price/mazda.html
They only make SS.
I can do the flex for the list price of the SS coilover if you'd like. That's a HUGE discount.
Why get entry level when i can get you Flex's for about the same price.

Honestly I come from the FC world and the FD even with 14kg spring rates rides better than my FC with 9/7's. lolz....
So i think you will be very happy with the Flex. Firmer than stock, great compliance for street conditions, low pressure twin tube damper yet trackable spring rates.

I have tried many different suspension setups over the last 5 years including Tein and Ground Control coilovers. Search on my posts if you want to read past posts of mine where I gave very detailed impressions.
The only reason I run coil overs now is b/c I spend a lot of time tracking the car. The ride comfort of both Tein and the Koni w/ Ground Control springs is much worse than a softer regular style shock and spring setup. When/if I ever get a race car, I will reinstall a set of H&R, Eibach or RSR springs over my Koni or good condition stock shocks (which are getting hard to find these days). Rishie's got an excellent deal on the Teins but if comfort was a priority I wouldn't be looking at coilovers.
This is of course my opinion. Everyone's interpretation of ride comfort/quality varies - usually with age.
