F/R Tire Diameter Differences and ABS
All,
I am picking out tire sizes right now. I'm have to options. I'm going with Falken RT-615s.
Rear is going to be a 275/40/17 (25.6" diameter)in both options.
Front is either a 245/45/17 (25.6" diameter, perfect match)
or
255/40/17 (25.0" diameter)
The pros of the 255 front is more grip, and a smaller diameter. So less rubbage, or more clearance, however you want to look at it.
Potential cons of hte 255 is that there will be a difference in diameter, causing the front and rear to be rotating at different speeds. This could possible cause a problem with the ABS system.
Will a difference of 0.6" on the diameter cause the ABS to not function properly?
Thanks,
Kevin

No. Perhaps it wouldn't be 100% optimal, but the increased tire grip over stock tires would more than offset any slight penalty. You do NOT want to run a tire that tall up front (25.6"), unless you like replacing fender liners and wiring harnesses.

Thanks for the reply.
So you'd recommend the 255/275 combo I listed?
Or is there another tire manufacture that makes a comprable tire in different sizes that you'd recommend?

The reasons I'm looking at the 17s as opposed to 18s are:
1. Wheels are cheaper.
2. Tires are cheaper.
3. Wheels and tires are lighter.
4. Roads in Cincinnati suck, and I'd likely kill the wheels with potholes if I had 18s.

I've had RT-615s on another car, and I love the tires. they were 225s on an AWD talon, so traction wasn't a problem.
I'm going with Enkei RPF1s
From Richie if he has any left.
17x9 +45 front.
17x9.5 +38 rear.
I need as much tire as I can get. I have quite the potent motor in the car. LS1 swap with a rowdy cam.

Acutally, from my experience, the tires are pretty damn good in the rain. Most other UHP or Max preformance tires I've used have horrible wet traction. I was surprised how well they gripped in the wet. I never had any hyrdoplane problems, or anything weird like that. Other passengers in my car have also commented how grippy they are in the rain.

kevin, if this was a track only setup, i'd run the 17x9 +45 all around; then you can use 275's all around.
I also run 255-40-17 front and 275-40-17 615's.
no issues found yet but i haven't put too many miles on them yet, and my car isn't too low.
these are my street tires, but will also be used on the track if it rains.
