EBC green vs Hawk HP+

I'm looking into some pads for my T2, to use for street/autox and some track events (driving schools, not full-on racing)

I'm more concerned with the grip and longevity than the dusting (I know the green aren't supposed to dust much, while the HP+ dust like mad) How are they both for initial bite and fade resistance? Overall pad life? The greens probably last longer from what I've read, but they also cost nearly twice as much for a full set. Anybody have any opinions?

The Greens live up to their billing of very little to no dust...will try them on track to see if they're good for a few laps of 9/10ths driving...

wow, old thread. I just finished up a positive review of these pads in someone else's thread. I like the greens. I did coat my rims with dust from them, but that was at MADS, so it's not really fair to the pads. My street rims are so filthy right now that it's hard to judge dust levels. Stupid drought and car washing ban...

I'd guess the HP Plusses have the edge in track usability...as I recall the HP Plus have good initial bite cold or hot, but dust too much for street use...the Green Stuffs bite almost as well, but don't dust much at all during the street...I certainly don't expect the Green Stuffs to NOT dust on track though...the track-only brake bad that dusted the least amount during HARD USE was Hawk Black...ironcially enough

Hawk HP+ give great pedal feel and initial bite, but they will still fade on the track. However, they do maintain more friction when you are "over the limit" than other street pads I have faded (Hawk HPS just go away completely). Hell, I thought I had worn down to the backing plates when my Hawk Blues faded (I hadn't, but they were thin and I must have boiled the fluid)! With the HP+, I just gave myself some extra room and kept running. I was putting all my weight on the pedal for each stop, but they never went away completely, and I was able to finish my session without slowing down too much (just enough to have some more room for braking).

My final conclusion on the HP+ was that they felt fantastic, but they dusted and squealed too much for street pads and they still faded on the track. At that point, I gave up on finding a dual-purpose pad and just started switching pads for the track.

If you are just going to do some driving schools and the track you will run at is not too heavy on braking, you should be able to find something that will be good on the street and still let you have some fun on the track. Try Porterfield R4S pads.

I pretty much agree with Max. I run the HP+ for street and autox. They do dust and they do squeal on occasion (it doesn't bother me), but initial bite from cold is very good. I have never faded them on an autox course, even some with very hard braking from high (85+) speeds. One lap wasn't enough to make them fade, but I am sure that on a race track with hard use you could probably make them start to go within a few laps.

As for Hawk blacks, I saw them once used at an autox and since they never got up to operating temps they dusted like CRAZY. Definately track days only on that one.

Yeah Hawk Blacks are for track use...they don't heat up enough for any kind of bite for autocross!

I'm looking forward to trying the Porterfield R4Es...

Max, you're an ANIMAL! Wasted a set of Hawk BLUES!?

Not usually, but on occasion we have some big courses. Out of a few dozen events I would say have seen those speeds on 3 different courses.

The Midwestern Council actually runs their SCCA Solo IIs at Blackhawk Farms road course...I guess they do one lap around? It's quite popular!
