Thumbs up Drifting knuckles on NA fc= awesomeness, newer tune style?

hey everyone, recently i picked up some modified knuckles and have been anxiously anticipating the coming changes. strict grip drivers and shop owners are giving me ****, saying that i dont drift, so theyre risky, and unneccesary. after enduring nights of denial and catharsis, i started looking for drift videos to better examplify my claims (POSTED BELOW!!!!).

everyones going to have their opinion on ackerman angle, and geometry changes brought on by these, but i knew deep down from experience that the FC has problems with scrubbing speed, grip or drift.

and finally after nights of searching, a break through. two NA fc's, one drifting without knuckles, one with. and wow, the difference in dynamic is so obvious. the stock knuckles are meant to be conservative, to negotiate traffic, and are definately not meant to be as low as we like our 7's. the wheels fight eachother in an effort to deny angle. then!, a modified knuckle NA fc getting down as if it was a 86. it had that dynamic all underpowered cars deserve.

ive chased the handling of the FC for years, throwing flaming dollars at suspension and chassis components, ignorantly hoping for a dynamic change. had i known this, i would have gotten the knuckles, kept a full interior, and still beaten my previous style, hypothetically.

lets only pray and keep hope that these knuckles bring my car around- literally, and figuratively. ill be using a torsen or 1.5 way to blend styles and achieve maximum angle/speed with minimal steering.

without knuckles, scrub scrub scrub, fight fight fight. to quote the driver "stock angle and na kills boners" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pj1Uwaz8tE

with knuckles, fun fun fun, sexy even http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbH0g23CQXs

thumbs up if you know where im going with this.

soo you want extra steering angle and reduced ackerman for not-drifting?

ideal ackerman depends mainly on the tire you're using, and somewhat on speed. autox calls for a ton of ackerman (inside tire adds to yaw moment), high speed track could go either way. that depends on how the Fz/Fy/slip angle graph looks. which i highly doubt you have for any tire ;-)

drifters want no ackerman for the same reason - inside tire yaw moment makes the car less stable, esp at higher steering angles. point both front tires in the same direction at all times, and drifting is easier.

its how car cars dynamic works. with stock knuckles, the axles fight eachother, leading to stability and understeer before the apex. with the knuckles, the car has a fluid dynamic, can clip the apex sooner, and rocket out of a corner. remember, mazdas are supposed to handle a certain way. a rx8, miata, FD, turbo FC, and FB all have a similar look. having a NAFC kinda changes that mazda dynamic a little, and the cars limit is its turn in ability. if the rear can come around to make fore a better turn in, the car's weakness can become its stregnth. ive been modding and building my FC for a long time, and its not getting that dynamic i keep seeing on drift FC's, even though im far more built. i dont care if you want to call it drifting, i call it turning. i doubt my torsen, suspension setup, cage, and tires will allow me to go full *** out. if you dont understand that, then what can i say?? we'll see how it turns out! rotary 'experiment'!

Those knuckles on a non-drift NA FC are more useless than **** on a boar hog.

And he got them from the for-sale section.

I'm hoping to get some knuckles on my FC soon. My engine set up is not "ideal" and is "a waste of money" for some ppl that follow the norm when it comes to drifting. But I'm ready to venture onto new grounds and do knuckles on my 13B 48 DCO car.

If a NA AE86 can drift HTM here in So-Cal then so can my NA FC!!!!

Try looking for a company out in Europe that does drift stuff, I now there's one that makes knuckles for the FC and a couple ppl here on the forums do as well. Try harder with the search function.
