Custom Two Tone PowderCoating?

Has anyone tried to powdercoat just the centers, like the spoke areas only, and leave the rest of the rims stock............I like the idea of the gunmetal centers with the lighter/brighter surrounding rim..........sort of a poor man's SSR Comp, if you know what I mean?.......Does anyone know if this is feasible? Seems like someone that's a Wiz with masking tape ought to be able to do it........

Anyone tried?

TKS, and Cheers.......

very hard to do it perfect since the powder has a tendency to bleed over during the oven process.

If you use the right tape you won't have any "bleed over". Masking off a square with tape is easy. Masking off something round with tape would be very difficult. You would need something die cut on a vinyl press....

Oh yeah, polishing the lip would be nearly impossible. What would you polish with? Powder forms a much stronger bond with metal than liquid paint.

Yeah Black 99, sort of like that........ I can't really tell, but is ONLY the very lip still the stock silver? My idea is to have the spokes ONLY done in the gunmetal, with the rest of the wheel still stock.......even in the photo you posted, even if it is only the very edge bead that is silver, I like it better because it sort of separates the tire from the wheel; very aesthetically pleasing IMO......better than pure black leading to pure black rubber.

Have to admit though.......the photos of Batmans car are pretty friggin cool, but that little silver bead of color would even set the wheels off better, once again IMO.

Thanks, and if anyone else has ideas keep em comin....

Yes in that pic only the outside of the lip is left silver. Looks alot better on that car then an all black wheel would look I think. Probably because I've never seen them done like that before though. It's Bryan at BNR Supercars car. You could always click the link at the top, email him and ask him where/how he got them done.
