Coilover Springs Question (FD3S)

I have a set of Tein SS on the car.
12 front 10 rear, purchased from a forum member last year.
I was wondering if it is possible to change to a softer Tein spring to replace the originals, or if this would throw the valving off. I am asking because somebody told me that although the shocks are adjustable, they are designed to work with the spring they came with and can only vary a bit, but not enough to compensate for a softer spring.

I did search, but I did not find an answer to this question. I have read the Howard Coleman's Chassis thread over a couple of times and I would like to go with softer springs as per his suggestion and also per my my teeth fillings' suggestions.

If somebody can pitch in, I found this spreadsheet on the Tein Site:
(look for Tein Super Street)

MAZDA RX-7

It is my understanding that the range is + or - 2 kgmm, which leads me to believe that I can up to 14 front and 12 rear, or down to 10 front and 8 rear.

Am I reading this right?

I will. Their site has a table and it says pretty clearly you can go +- 2 kg.
That means I can't go any lower than 10/8.

Did you end up changing the springs? How is the ride now?
I also have the 12/10 tein flex and am thinking about getting something softer

we've learned that the biggest influence on ride quality is the shock.

there are generally two valves in a shock, the low (shock piston) speed valve and the high (shock piston) speed valve. the high speed valve is for bumps, which are sudden. the low speed valve is for handling.

so step 1 in ride comfort is to get the shock valving right. it is amazing how nice you can get a car to ride, even with high spring rates, when the valving is correct.

lowering the spring rate will give you more chassis/body motion per bump event (the wheel will move more), so that might help too
