Can't Bust My Nut. Rear Strut Lower Nut that is.
Hey Guys,
So I am doing a spring install and got the fronts done and the nut on the bottom of the rear strut are a BIATCH...they will not budge...
I was using a 17mm with 3/8" drive...It broke one ratchet.....then another...so I went to the hardware store...Bought a huge torq wrench with a 1/2" drive...Anway, had to buy an adapter to fit my 17mm 3/8" socket and it broke 2 of the adapters...It's been sprayed down with PB blast and let sit for a couple hours and still not budging...
How did you get yours off..Did you have to use an impact wrench?

Hey you didn't happen to have a torch around there did you? We could have heated it up then tried to get it off. Who knows, maybe if it sits with the PB Blaster on there overnight it will budge tomorrow.

put a regular closed end wrench on there then just beat the ever loving snot out of it. ive done it multiple nuts and bolts and it always does the trick! and it releaves stress too!
if that doesnt work, get a bigger hammer...

Grass roots motorsports has a very good article on this, check it out this months issue. Allen brand sockets will also never round off your nuts, it contacts the flat not the corner of the nut. Heat it til it turns orange, then let it cool, it should come right off. Carl

Well, got her done! I had to use a 2ft long breaker bar, a 17mm 1/2" drive socket, all the muscles in my legs, and back, then it came loose. The rears became more of a pain than the fronts for this car...
Just a couple casualties...2 broken studs on the front right. Then on the rear I scraped some paint off with this frigging ugly *** tire tool Toby brought over...the walls of the socket were just too thick and rubbed the paint...Ahhh well...Touch up paint is my frined.
Here's a photo of the stance.
also...definately going to rub through the front fender liners....the rear i am pretty sure I will have to roll Just need to find someone who knows what they are doing here in town...At least I can rest assured the *** of my car isn't sticking up in the air while i'm on my trip. See you guys after the 4th....I'm going to some ******* cold place.

Way cool, well have to see if it even does rub once I dial in some negative camber. It might not with the wheels tilted in a bit. and negative camber is our friend in autoX. Haha, this thing is like a big Miata :putting flame suit on:
