Calling all Wheel Gods - Volk GTN's Again..

I just walked into a fairly good deal for GTN's. This company says they have the following in stock and suggests they will fit my car. With all the posts I am very sensitive to getting the wrong size...

I currently have pfs comfort sport springs (lower about 3/4-1") and the wheels he says are 18x9 and 18x10 with the front offset in the "30's" the rear is "standard" He suggests a 245/40 and 275/35 tire (toyo proxies).

What I've been able to wade through on this rx7club is that ideally I would want a 18x9 GTN with a +45 offset for the front....

So what gives - will the 18x9's fit with an offset in the "30's" (I figure it is the only 3x offset the GTN has)?

A simple yes or no would suffice. Thanks for your kind patience!

I think you may have a problem up front... even if its a high "30's" like +38, thats gonna be tight with a 9" wheel.

Also, 245/40/18 is a fairly tall tire for the front of anFD (most go 235/40/18, 245/35/18 or 255/35/18).. so this will add to your clearance issue.

What the heck is "standard offset" for the rear?

By saying the front is in the '30's and the rear standard - he's subconsciously saying the front is not standard.

The offset is printed on the box and on the wheels very clearly - I have a feeling he's being vague for a reason.

oh sorry - front: no, rear: not enough info

btw, the GTN's have only two +3x offsets in 18X9 with A disk height (the only height that Volk recommends up front to clear the calipers)

Question 36-mm with 9 wide up front

Brrrrrrrm. That's the sound you'll hear from the front tires rubbing fender liners and fender lips!

Thanks Sleep! I knew you knew you were a wheel god. BTW, the name of the company I am talking about is http://www.wheelboutique.com - the guy says he has done many this way and to contact Volk. I've seen problems some have had with volk so I wanted to ask.

So a volk 8" at +45 in front is good w/o modifications or innapropriately placed rubbing?

With 45 offset you could go 9 wide x 17 if you want up front with 255/40-17. With 8 wide you could go 38 mm offset. (225) With 8.5 wide, 40-42 mm offset (235 or 245) up front.

Good taste on rims Mine are 18x10 +49 rear with 285-30-18 and 18x9 +42 with 255-35-18 front. The only thing I would change is the front offset. I would get 18x9 +49 for the front, they are a "mid hight" pad but will clear stock calipers. (it's the only higher number offset that will fit in GT-Ns as the +44 are a low pad rim and will not clear the calipers). Mine rub the fender if I'm not careful. Maybe someone will correct me on spring/shock clearance but I think they are ok. BTW my car is lowered with Eibach springs and konis set on the lowest setting.

jr - thanks for the feedback. Nice "meats".

I'm thinking I would go with a 18x8 & a 245 up front. I think this would allow a +42-ish offset. I don't follow you on the low pad rim stuff - what does that mean?

thanks!

I have seen a few people ask about Volks pad hights, so I will try my best to explain. Most of Volks wheels have three different pad hights, low, mid and high. Click on the link below to bring up a GT-N chart. Look at the 18x9 rims and notice that there is an A (high) B (mid) and C (low). Follow the A line across to the +30 offset. If you follow that column up to the top it gives a rim depth (that is the polished outside lip of the rim) of 69mm. Now follow the B (mid) line across to the +43, notice that it is just below the +30 which means that it too has a rim depth of 69mm. So two rims with different offsets (13mm) look exactly (almost) the same from the outside. The differance between the +30 (high) and +43 (mid) is they machine 13mm of materal from the back of the pad, which moves the spokes of the rim closer to the calipers. I have mounted my 18x10 +49 mid pad rims on the front to check caliper clearance and they still had about 12mm of clearance to the STOCK calipers, so you should be able to chose any A(high) or B(mid) rims for the front, just be careful to not pick a rim that has more rim depth for the front. Hope this helps Jeffhttp://www.rayswheels.co.jp/cgi-bin/...?modelName=GTN

So the higher the rim depth, the deeper the pizza dish ?
