Re: NT-05 tread design:
I would still be careful with this tire in heavy rain or hydroplaning conditions. It's a continuous center rib that won't really get down to the road in heavy rain, and the tread pattern doesn't sweep outward to clear water from the contact patch. Water can only go down the two grooves aside the center rib.
As summer tires go, it's not what I consider an all-around summer tire. It's definitely biased toward dry grip.
The pattern resembles the RE-01R quite a bit, which I'd say is ok in rain and best in the dry.

At this point I'm between the Michelin PS2s and the Nitto NT05s, and am also considering the Toyo R1Rs. Ideally I'd like 245/40 and 275/40 17s, and with the Nittos I'm forced to move to either a 235 or 255/40 up front which I'd rather not do.
The michelins are quite a bit more expensive than the Nittos (like 500 more for the set) but they're also a true street tire and have rave reviews on the tire rack, including from people running them on Ferraris and Vipers.

Well, I just got a set of NT05s off ebay. The only place I could find that have them for sale. I messaged him and he said he has them in his possession. I thought they were a DAMN good deal also. I think it was going to be 650$ shipped for the star specs from tire rack, but because of the free shipping off ebay, a full set was only 544$ from this guy.
I got 255/40/17 and 235/40/17. I would LOVE to give everyone a review on how awesome they are, but I really have NOTHING to compare them too. I have had crap OMG these should not be driven on the road used all season tires. lol. I am VERY excited.
If anybody wants to catch these tires also, here are the links to the ebay site.

What you need to do is look in to the RE-11's that are replacing the RE-O1R's! They have better wet and dry weather traction. They are also made in more sizes. If you want more info. on them pm me and I will see what I can do.

Yeah, but are they TWICE as good, cuz they're TWICE as expensive!

Rich, we've been thinking of you always. However, the NT-05 is heavily geared toward autocross cars in the STX, STS, and STU classes which must use stock sized wheels. That generally means the really wide stuff, if it's coming, will not be the first sizes released.
Signed with hugs and kisses, Bridgestone
(I suspect picking on Rich will catch up sooner or later, like when he's on the mic at the Carlisi event)

i'm currently running nt05s in 255/40/17 but it's too cold to push it hard, so no feedback yet. they are loud tires though.

Tire Rack ran a closeout blow out a couple of weeks ago on Bridgestone RE-01R's. I picked up a set brand new in the stock size for around $350shipped. I don't need them, it was just too good of a deal to pass up.
Copy all Rich. I just want some Direzza Z1's, NT05's, or RE-11R's in 285/30/18. I don't think that is too much to ask... haha.

from what i've read, this tire is geared towards track days more than autox as they take about a lap to heat up.. not exactly what you want for autox.. (i could have read wrong)

Dave,
Are you talking about people that would want to purchase a set? They are long gone unfortunately. They sold out in a couple of days. You might try giving them a call and seeing if they have anything left.

They found another batch of RE-01s within the last week, esp the 225/50/16s, but the manufacture date is like 2005 or something on them. These old ones are stupid cheap ($50/corner or something) and I think there are still some left.
