malloy mazda probably sells 90% of the mazda parts bought new by members of this forum. lowest prices, pillowball bushings under $50, free shipping, and Ray Crowe who is THE man to talk with... currently on vacation but john is doing a good job filling in...

If you can run a couple of autocrosses each year, you can join Mazda Motorsports. I just ordered a couple of pillow ball bearings from them. I think they were around $35 each.
Try www.mazdaformance.com They may be able to get you a good deal too.

I listed the prices for all of them on my website with the mazdapart numbers. I bought mine from Malloy.

I find 8 pillow ball bushings
Am I mistaken, or are there 8 pillow ball bushings (4 on each side) not just 6 (3)?
I count the following:
1) Upper Control Arm held to Hub Support Assembly
2) Lower Control Arm held to Hub Support Assembly
3) Lower Control Arm held to Frame
4) Lower Control Arm held to Trailing Arm
so which one commonly doesn't need to be replaced?
Toe Link bushings
What kind of bushings are these? Ar they regular bushings or pillow ball bushings?
...They are not included in the Unobtainium set, so I assume that there pillow ball.

All those you listed are pillowballs (Cept maybe #3), as on the car from from the factory. You are correct in assumption, Jim likely did not see a performance increase or need to replace these, since they are already pillowballs.
I am in the process of installing all new pillowballs everywhere (20 total!) plus RE trailing arms and toe control rods, along with seam welding and reinforcing the front suspension attachment points

Japanparts.com has a listing of Mazdaspeed "hard rubber bushings." I'm just quoting from their site so if anyone cares to explain in more detail that'd be great. They are as follows:
Upper mount - 4 needed
Front upper arm bushing (#1 as posted by Detbyron?) - 4 needed
Front lower arm bushing/front (#2?) - 2 needed
Front lower arm bushing/rear (#3?) - 2 needed
Front lower arm bushing support - 4 needed
Rear upper arm bushing - 4 needed
Rear lower arm bushing (#4?) - 2 needed
Trailing link bushing - 2 needed
They ain't exactly cheap, so which of these, if any, would provide a useful improvement over the OEM bushings?
Also, which of these are eliminated by the assorted heim-jointed trailing and toe links out there?

Yep - I am replacing everything
Those replace all of the rubber bushings in the front and rear suspension (except the diff mounts) - you still need to get the 6 ORIGINAL pillowballs from Mazda though)
I am also installing Rotary Extreme trailing links and toe control rods (Thanks Chuck!), which is why I have the extra units for sale.
In detail
Front Upper control arm 4
Front Lower control arm 4
Rear Upper control arm 8
Rear Lower Arm 6
Plus the Trailing Links and Toe Control Rods
I guess its 22 + the rod end parts

hmmm
very interesting.
So you are actually replacing standard bushings with pillow ball bushings! I didn't know you could do that.
Why are you doing this? (longer life, stiffer feel, less expensive, etc etc)
Where did you get these from... is it a kit?
Are they direct replacements, or do you have to modify the suspension? (Is this why you are seam welding and reinforcing the attachement points?!?!)
Thanks allot!!!

Well the car has 99k miles on it, and it was due for 70% new factory bushings anyways. When I looked at the prices of the mazdaspeed and factory parts I thought no way. I almost got a set of the unobtanium bushings, but actually got a "good deal" on these pillowballs. I am also setting the car up for competition, and wanted an uncompromising base to work with. I think that with PBs installed everywhere, the car will be extremely stiff (read - barely, if streetable, at all) but it will be more predictable. The suspension members will not deflect under load. This is also why I am doing the seam welding and reinforcing the mounts on the car, as the PB's will transfer a lot more force to the frame, and possibly stress the attachment points ( Anyone ever looked at the tiny little tabs that hold on the front upper arms?)
This is a kit made in japan by a company named Original Box, and is supposed to be a bolt (Press?) in. The mechanic installing them has not had any issues or fabrication to do (as of yet). I should have the car back by weds or so of next week, and if I havent rattled myself to death ill post impressions
