Bridgestone RE01R vs. Falken RT615

I'm in the market for a set of tires for my car again and I'm trying to decide whether to go with the RE01R or the RT 615.

I have the RT615 on my 1st gen and like the tire a lot. It has a lot of grip, traction, driver feel, etc...

Anyone here try the RE01R? If so, any feedback on them? Better yet, has anyone tried both?

They are a very similar tire. I had both sets on my Skyline in the past (new tires of course)

I AutoXed both sets, and overall I liked the RE01r better but just barely. Considering the price difference between the two tires, I would get the 615's. It's such a small difference in performance that it's definatley worth it to save over $100 per tire and just get the 615's.

My next tire is going to be the Dunlop Z1 Star-Spec. I've heard GREAT things about this tire, and its handling characteristics. A lot of AutoXers rate it to identical in the dry and actually BETTER in the wet (to the RE01r). These tires are between the Bridgestones and the Falkens, so that may be an option for you. If the car is going to be driven on the street, they are the best bet overall because of their great wet rating.

Get the star spec (1 guy has been ripping up our local road tire class with them), or wait another month and try out the Kumho XS for us...

The Falkens are incredible values and still a very competitive tire. I may well re-shod with them even though they are a tenth or 2 slower than the RE-01. I got just over 100 runs on my fronts with about 4k street miles. Rears still have some life left in them after all that.

The stones are quite fast and a touch more progressive but you pay out the *** for it. I have yet to run them in the wet, but I'd imagine they are alot better than the Falkens. Even with the Dunlops hanging around, they are still the tire to have in the ST classes.

RE-01R's are more expensive, but marginally better in the dry and much better in the wet.

Ok next question:

which one lasts longer?

I have BF Goodrich KD on my car right now and while they were amazing for the qst 3000 miles or so, they handled like crap after leaving the car sitting for a few months...

Like I said, I got about 100 runs and 4k street miles on my RT-615s. The RE-01s I got were shaved (or used if you prefer) so I can't give you an accurate answer.

I DD'ed my RE-01R's for 1 year, before I used them as autocross and track tires, with some DD duty the second year. My daily drive was 60 miles roundtrip. After they're worn down almost to the ground and repeatedly heat cycled, they still give awesome grip, but not as awesome as before.

The tires probably have around 15,000 miles on it, if not more.

Surprised you didn't go for the Dunlop Star Spec, I currently have RT615's and the Star Spec will defintively be my next tire.

I have a good friend that autox's his STI and has tested all these tires including Neovas.

He ultimately decided on the Dunlop Direzza Z1's, but now they have a 2nd Generation of that tire which I don't have much info on.

His overall conclusion that these provided the best balance/value for on track performance and cost.

Good luck with your decision vic...

My thoughts exactly. Just burning money on those stones if you ask me.
