Best spring rates for an FD

Mostly street the car, but will do a couple of track events. What is best spring / spring rate that won't rattle my fillings out, but offers good handling.

Stock type struts or coilover type on your car? What kind?

This is not an easy question to answer as there is no one correct answer. I suggest searching this section and you'll find lots of guys who are happy with many different setups. Most people really seem to like the H&R springs with stock struts, Konis or Tokicos. True coilovers have many, many other choices however.

I would also suggest giving a call to Ground Control, Pro-Parts, Truechoice, Tri-Point Engineering, and Ankeny Racing. These are all experienced suspension tuners who have firsthand knowledge of the third gen RX-7 ... what works and what doesn't.

Thanks going coil over, either JIC, DMS, or Tein. question is do you use the spings that come with the coil overs, or do you use one from H&R

I just put on my JIC's. These coilovers are AWESOME. The softest setting (15 way adjustable) is VERY streetable and the hardest setting is all you need for a track day every now and then.

I highly recommend them.

The H&R spring kits are 4" diameter springs, IIRC. They will NOT work with the JIC, DMS, Tein, or any other true coilover. If you were insistent upon getting the H&R's, you'd have to fabricate a different perch mount to use the H&R springs. Furthermore, coilovers are usually built to match the springs that they come with. Changing the springs without adjusting the shock valving accordingly can result in poor damping performance. IOW, use the springs that come with the coilovers.

JIC offers another option ... a custom-built setup that allows you to choose your spring rates, which they will match the shock valving to. I've talked to DMS, and they do that as well. Tein is capable of doing that, but I don't know if they offer that as a service. If price is no object, then you should really be talking to Dynamic Suspensions, Moton, Penske, or Ohlin. Course, these are racing use products ONLY .... for the hardcore enthusiasts.

*edit: I forgot, street car. Scratch that for the expensive stuff then. Unless you like throwing money away ....
