Any FD guys running yoko ES100s?
I am thinking of getting a set in 245 and 275 for my fikses when the s03s crap out on me. They are so much cheaper than the alternatives. I am not looking to skimp on tires, but i know i sold many sets to customers when i was at the shop and have heard many great stories from other car people, just not FD people.

Rich, I had a set a while back and wasn't happy with them. IMO, they're nothing more than pseudo-performance tires for the low of budget. The tread looks nice (for whatever that's worth ), and that's about their only appeal. For regular street driving, they're OK, but for any kind of performance driving, they really lack grip. With the kind of power you're putting out, I doubt you'd get any kind of traction with them. Anyway, I ended up taking 'em off after a few thousand miles and replaced them with S-03s. If I were you, I'd just spend the money on *real* tires. Another good option to consider is the Toyo T1-S. You can get them here at a great price:

Good advice. I was looking at those as well, and i realize that the toyos and s03s are in another league when compared to the es100s. That is a very good price, I am going to bookmark that link.
One other thing to note: the t1-s is *much* lighter than the s03. Nothing scientific, but I have lifted up a pair of stock wheels with one of each on and the difference was very, very noticeable.

They aren't the grippiest tire, but the are very good for "spirited street" driving. I wouldn't get competitive with drag, autoX or road racing using them though.
If all you are looking for is a street tire, I'd recommend them. If you will be doing autox or some other type of high performance driving events, I would recommend spending some extra $$$ on the higher performance tires.

I have em on my 17s. They are very average. I used them on the track and auto-x. My old Firestone SZ50s that are all hard from age are almost as good as these tires are new. You get what you pay for.

Check out Bridgestone RE750s. Tire rack has a couple comparison articles on the yokos and the 750s. The 750s out perform the Yokos, cost only slightly more, and have a better wear rating. I've been using the 750s for a year now and am very happy with them.

On my car, with Tein Flex Coilovers set for 25" ride height f/r, -1.6 camber in front, -1.1 camber in the rear, 0 toe in front, 1/16" in the rear, RE trailing arms and toe links, and new pillow ***** I can consistently pull 1.1 to 1.15 lateral g's using ES100's.
If you want to sum braking/acceleration and lateral acceleration I can get to about 1.3-1.35 total g's.
They usually take about 1-2 laps to warm up but I can overheat them if I get crazy or it's very hot out.
For reference, my only previous tires were some crappy charger something or other and I couldn't get over .8 lateral g's on the stock touring suspension.
Overall these tires have worked well for me over my first 6-7 hpde's.

Rich, I've run these tires on 2 different cars.. they're great tires for the $$$, but they're not the "best" tire in the world obviously... For the money, I'd say you can't beat them from the others I've run, but there's a lot grippier out there if you're hunting.
The Toyo TS-1s and teh S03s are obviously a much better tire, but that comes at a price. The closest you're goingto get to overall performance of those tires on a budget are going to be the Kuhmo MXs. They're going to be a tad louder, but I'd bt the grip levels for the $$ will impress you.

I'm running Yoko ES100s 255/40/17 and did a few autocrosses this year on them. They were better than my old Dunlop tires hands down. I don't have anything else to compare them against, but they held great during auto-x and have been good on the street.

Forget everything you know about the Kumho 712, they were garbage. The MX however is a great tire.

I have a TII but have run with es 100s before and they were a decent street tire for the money. Then I upgraded to toyo t1s and the es100s cannot even compare at all to them.

I agree with speedking. They are a good tire at that price point but they dont like the cold and lack good grip. I have a tough time not spinning them. In the fall they are almost dangerous as they never really heat up. Spend some extra money and get good tires. ES100 will let you down.

i agree with aron i had them and i spun them all the time and my car is mostly stock but i lost quarter mile time by going from bald nice tires to new cheap es 100's and they wouldnt heat up for **** at the track or on the street now i have perellis (sp) and they are far better

There's no way that the T1-S are equally capable as the MX or the KD, which is widely considered to be one of the best, if not the best non R compound tire out there. The MX has a wear rating of 220, the T1-s has a wear rating of 280. I know that's not a measure of grip, but it's an indication of what it should be. Also the MX has larger tread blocks which is better for high performance. The T1-S is a great tire, but the MX is better.
I've never used either, but everything that I've ever read about them leads me to beleive that the MX is the superior tire.
