285/30/18 tire suggestions?

(2) of the four tires came in today. Here are some measurements of the RE-11 285/30/18 tires. I will be running them on 11.45" wheel widths. I might mount them tomorrow, depending on some stuff, might be the weekend.
I can't imagine trying to squeeze these onto a 10" wheel. Look at the tire bead width (11")

If I turn the steering completely wheels rub a bit on the sway bar mounts. It happens only when driving really slowly like when parking the car.
Else no problem yet and I have done a track day with this setup. I run coilovers and the ride height is about 25"-25.25".

re-11 285/30/18 on a 18x11.5" wheel. slightly stretched for optimum handling. I did a test fit with 1 wheel and it clears everything. I will run my 18x10's till the tires get more worn down before throwing these on 100% of the time.

Sorry to dig up such an old thread, but did you happen to have to roll your fenders to fit this? Also, after a few years, do you still recommend this setup?

From: FL-->NJ/NYC again!
I ran a 285/30-18 on 18x10 square setup and didn't really like it on the street. Of course I had manual steering back then
I've come to love a 255/265 stagger on a 9.5/10 wheel. Given the right tire choice it works very well for a modded FD, both street and track.

What exactly are you looking to do with your car?

I am running a +42mm offset with an 11.5" wheel and 285 tires.
To run what I do you need a little negative camber and be running coilovers in order to fit. I think a conservative fitment of 10.5" wide and +45 to +47mm offset would be good.

For the usual "track" 285/30/18 on 18x10 +50 offset setup, you don't need to roll the rears, but IMO you do in the front. I actually run a 5mm spacer in the rear.
Not the best street setup IMO as Rich mentions—my streets are 18x9" w/ 255/35, and 18x10" w/ 275/35. That's just about perfect.

No more tracking on the freeway with these tires. It was another story when I had the A048.

Thanks for the info, everyone!
I'm curious -- what makes the staggered setup superior to the square 285 all around?

Only things I can think of that would make the staggered fitment better than 285 square all the way around are-
1) Skinnier tire advantages-
less steering effort
less hydroplaning
less chance of being put on too skinny of a wheel so it feels wobbly and tracks into ruts
less contact with pavement/less overall traction therefore more consistent traction (wider is more chance to get sand/gravel under contact patch)
less camber required to fit up front so less camber thrust (pulling side to side over uneven traction surfaces)
car understeers at limit so untrained instinct of getting off the gas when limit is exceeded will be ok
2) If that 285 is put on a wheel narrower than 10.5 it is on a skinny wheel and will be more prone to feel wobbly and track into ruts.
-------------------
I really like 285s and 295s up front on my 18x11 +45. I don't find they track into ruts any more than my narrower wheels/tires with the same (race) alignment and the ride is great because most pot holes etc it just glides over instead of falling into because its so wide.
You do have a lower hydroplanning speed though.
You do have to be vigilant on knowing the road surface (sand/gravel).
