I've done a small search and i've heard 245/45/16 is safe but what about 245/50/16? My car has stock suspension but will be getting h&r's & tokico's asap. I really want a set of those Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's . . . . Thanks- Clayton T.

Why would you run that size? 50 is too tall of a sidewall/aspect ratio for this. It will be worse when you lower it.

Stock FC or FD 16" rims? I've seen 245/50's fit nicely on TII rims. Aren't the FD rims wider?

Yeah these are for FD rims. I'd really like to talk to someone who actually went with this combo and see what they have to say; if i don't i will consider other tires. I just like what everyone says about the goodyears.

The Stock FD rim is 16x8 a 245/45-16 will fit fine and be about the same overall dia as the stock 225/50-16's, a 265/40 could be squeezed onto an 8" rim but would be taller than a 225/50 (fwiw a 275/60 will fit on an 8" rim also - I may be running a set on my Dakota soon)

Ah, i guess i'll just look for another tire. This is a reason why i want those 5zigen 17x9 inch rims but i'm going to save up some more money and get the rims i want. Thanks guys, i'll just look into another tire.

the smart money says to buy a tire in a size you know fits and works well - meaning fits on the rim *properly*, doesn't change gear ratios, and will not rub.

the right size for the fd on a stock rim is 245/45/16 Z or V rated or the stock 225 size.

Why the hell don't you go with 225/50 16? It is a perfect fit and is the stock size for the FD. You even suggested 215/40 16. Are you purposely looking for a tire that won't fit?

Goodyear doesn't make a tire good enough to justify using an incorrect or non-optimal size (niether does any other brand for that matter). Just buy a tire that comes in the correct size, there are PLENTY of good ones in 245/45/16.

No, i'm trying to find a tire that DOES fit. Like i said, i just had my eye on the goodyears because the good feedback from it's users; what i've just discovered was that the 245/50 16 isn't a good size because of its height. I'm going to go with a 245/45 16 from another name brand with similar performance and tread life. Thanks again- Clayton T.

Well listen to this......I got my car over the summer from a guy up in Dallas. He had 255/50-16 on the car in the back and the stock tire size in the front (on 4 stock wheels). Well, I am finally going to change out those rear tires next month. I was waiting until the tread worn down a little bit more (I'm not Mr. Moneybaggs) before I replaced them.

Anyway, I have koni yellows and Eibach springs and I can honestly say I haven't experienced anything bad in the back end.

Sorry, this just struck me funny.

I know a guy that ran 255/50-16 on the back of his FD and they looked too big but didn't rub anywhere. However, the front is where you would have problems if you try to run a big tire. I think it's best to go with 245/45 or 225/50 tires (for stock wheels) for that reason.

Ok, am I missing something? I said 225/50 16, not 245/50 16. Do you see the difference? There is a 2 instead of a 4. 225/50 16 is the perfect size for the FD and it is offered in the Goodyear tire you want.

People are saying that a 245/50 16 is too tall for a lowered car. So i figured my a 225/50 16 isn't a option. However, rjeremy000, maxcooper, and you all say a 225/50 16 will work. I assumed that it was the height of the tire that was the problem but now i know it's the width. I'll go with the 225/50 16 goodyears. Thanks- Clayton T.

You're not getting it. A 245/50 tire is TALLER than a 225/50 tire. You need to read through Tire Rack's wheel and tire tech sections, especially the tire profile and plus sizing sections.

The second number in a tire is the RATIO of sidewall height to width, not an absolute sidewall height. A 225/50 16 is about the same diameter as a 245/45 16 tire, even though the 245/45 tire is wider.

Yep, it looks rather odd. I still have no idea why he did it (maybe the car looked cooler to him or something). I think I'm going in next week to finally get some new rear tires....the treads on these huge ones is pretty much gone.

Update: I got my goodyear's in the 225/50 16 size and the fit great. Thanks for putting up with my ignorance on the subject even though i thought i had a idea how tire fitaments worked you guys guided me in the right direction. Thanks again- Clayton T.

I am running that tire size right now (245/50/16). I got 4 Dunlop SP5000s with probably 60 percent trend left from a friend for 80 dollars, and mounted for free (if anyone is wondering why I am running them). If I push things the front tires will rub bad, but the rears are fine. I am on stock springs with Tokicos.

Jesus, if you can't even afford to buy decent tires in the right size, perhaps an FD isn't the car for you...

you can get the toyo t1-s in a 245/45.......great tire!
