NY 225/50x16 tires on stock TII rims question

I have a 89 gxl which currently doesnt have a motor in it. i just put new 90 TII rims the 16x7 on it with 225 50x16's all around. when i put the front on you can feel the tire hitting the front spring. i am getting coilovers before i put the motor back in. Will coilovers fix it or will i need spacers?

I have a 1987 GXL. I'm running the Turbo Sawblade rims with 215/50R16 up front and 225/50R16 in the rear. Fits fine. I also have Eibach springs, so I'm about 1/2 inch lower than stock.

When I tried my 225/50R16 up front, I would occasionally hit the fender when I turned sharp. The 225s cleared the inside strut, though.

For you, coilovers may fix the rubbing on the inside, or make it worse. Lowering the car may also introduce a new problem with rubbing on the fender. You could then, roll the fender, or just run a smaller tire, like I did.

im definitely getting the fenders rolled. i guess im jus going to have to see what happens when i put the coilovers on. might just have to get 3 or 5 mm spacers.

You will lose backspacing with coilovers. Might need a 5mm slip on spacer.
