18x8 with 38mm offset for RX-8?

Sorry to cross-post here, but I know there's more experience on this forum with rims and offsets and no one is answering this query on the RX-8 forum this a.m.

Stock RX-8 rim is 18x8 with +50mm offset, 5x114.3 pattern.

I'm considering a set of Buddy Club PII's in 18x8, with +38mm offset and am worried that the 12mm difference in offset will push the rims out far enough to cause sidewall rubbing on the fender lips. This rim is mfr'd also in 18x8 with 45mm offset, which I think would be better, but I'm sure it'll have to be special ordered at greater cost. I would be running a 245/40/18 tire w/this rim.

Opinions on whether the 38mm offset will work, or should I hold out for 45mm?

Many thanks,

It's probably going to be hard for us to say due to us not having much info on the variety of owner fitments out there. RX8 community is probably in that realm of "learn as you go". You can do calculations to see if you are going ot clear brakes, etc., but I don't believe you can anticipate fender rubbing unless it is an extreme offset.

You are right, many RX-8 owners have been buying conservatively chosen alternate wheel/tire arrangements for winter use, but there's not a wealth of info about offsets and what rubs or doesn't. I don't 'think' a 12mm difference is going to make or break the situation, and it should clear the calipers no problem, but I think the sidewall/fender lip tolerance is gonna be close.

I could always dial in 2 deg. of negative camber as a remedy, I guess......
