18x7.5 wheel and tire offset

can anyone please help me with a question.
i've read in other thread of people running 18x7.5 rims on 225/40/18 tires on an fc.
i want to know what the offset is? im asking because i recently purchased a set of rims and tires exactly 18x7.5 225/40/18.
the problem is that the rims are a +45 offset. so im having major rubbing issues, not to mention that the spring comes down on the tire. the spring actually sits on the top the tire, about an inch inside the tire.
i dont know if the fact that i lowered the car 1.50 inches has anything to do with that.
i bought the rims on ebay(big mistake) and the guy assured me that they would fit my car. now im having a hard time exchanging them or getting any kind of refund. hes still insisting that they fit.
does anybody here know of anybody usinf this same tire and wheel setup on an fc? can you please let me know what would be the best offset on the wheel and tire combo a mentioned. thanks in advance for any info.

My rims are 18x7.5 with a 45 offset and I need to run a 215/40/18 for them not to rub up front.
