Most of us run offsets that allow up to fit as much wheel/tire under our stock fenders as we can while still being functional. If you/whoever likes the looks of these super-low offsets, thats fine and a personal preference.

I think there's a huge difference between "out of the norm" and "unadvisable" or "out of specification".

and when has tire stretching actually CUASED a problem durning racing/drifting/whatever? everyone 'THINKS' that the tire is gonna fall off or something? but can anyone post a video, or picture, or any thing other than speculation, that shows that there's anything mechanically unsafe or problematic with running stretched tires?

Think:
Dropping a wheel into the dirt...
Yes, I've seen them blow out doing that.

And your point is?

In any case the point is moot

some people like this, some dont

I find it comical when people defend their point like its the end of the world

Well let's see. What's "wrong" with it? It's not just my opinion on the way it looks, because looks aren't (shouldn't be?) the only point with regard to a functional component.

Let's review shall we:

1. Manufacturers publish the recommended wheel widths for a tire because that's the way they will perform at their best. Not look, perform. They may not fall off the rim if done otherwise, but they won't be the way they're supposed to be, and won't be at their best. It works the other way too. I had a tire engineer tell me that you're better off using a smaller tire that fit's optimally on your rim than trying to stuff on a larger tire thinking that more as always better.

2. The guy already has the thing "maxed out" on the camber. That's not necessarily the way it will perform it's best. Maybe it looks cool (depending on your taste) parked for a photo... but it's dumb and not a good strategy for achieving clearance.

3. At this point, the rims have been purchased and mounted, and require too-small tires and ridiculous camber in order to STILL not fit pending fender mods. Hope that works out.

Let me be clear, the pictures look great, and the car seems nice... no question. But it seems to me to be aweful waste to spend big bucks on wheels tires and ignore all of the functional aspects and end up with a compromised setup for asthetic effects that are dubious at best. Over-stretched tires look silly, sorry... and further basically scream "I don't understand what I'm doing". I think things look best when they are correct.

The case is only moot if performance, safety, and proper fit are moot.

If someone wants to completely disregard those things to make the car look like a cartoon, then OK. But that's lame.

Nice car. Nice fitment.

Hate on it all you want... I'll keep laughing at your pleas for "shadow offset"...

Im trying to hint at the fact that my intent wasnt to start this.

I just wanted to share good wheel fitment on my car.

Some dont think it is and thats fine with me.

You dont see me posting in other's posts spouting my convictions and getting upset when others dont agree.

Why is everybody so moody in this place?

Hahhahaha... I was wondering the same thing... but you have to expect it from the "rotary" crowd... Half these guys could spout off every OEM specification for these cars, but have never done a thing "out of the ordinary"...

Its kinda funny. You could probably sell the stock 'vert BBS wheels for more than your works on these forums...

...amazing.

So rob,

i guess you've come to learn real quickly that the rotary community is primarily a gRIP community.

I'm amazed at your wheel fitment but can't see how it wouldn't rub under normal driving conditions if you haven't rolled at all.

you got a picture from a top view so we can see how far the rim lip is sticking out?

i'm running a 18x9.0 +10 with 235/40/18 on my GP widebody FC with 20mm front fenders.

Thanks, Rishie

Rob, The car looks great. Rule #1 to owning a RX-7. Never post anything not done by everyone else 10 years ago on rx7club. The crowd around here is a little overly scientific. Everything has to be function this function that, Not much creativity or out of the norm styling.

Its not even that, Buy a more suitable offset and tire size you wont have to worry about rub or scrape. I mean whats the point...or rather the reasoning behind stretching a tire that much, just to fit 10" wheels? Then mount 9" range tires. I dropped my 9" wheels for 10" to fit my drag radials on..yeah they fit on on the 9" wheel but, it wasn't right. I went bigger to fit a wider tire not, down grade. I smell the coolness factor here, Help me comprehend.

Yups rotary owners are primarily function over form. Hands down. But Rob, I'm sure there's a huge segment of the market now that can appreciate what you've done and give it about one year and i'm sure you'll see a lot more drift style fc's coming into their own.

Peace, Rishie

Oh FYI, the point primarily is for LIPPPPPPAGEEEEE. I'm a grip guy myself but doesn't mean i can't appreciate different styles and so forth. If I had BIG *** BALLLLZ I'd prob do the same thing. I'm more into time trial tho rather than slideways trials.

That's all it comes down to. Getting lip without having to widebody.
