Nice. I may just wait and see what your up too LOL. I can't make up my mind. Just want something good. not going to do this again.
I made a mistake. I meant to say B30-627-B1 or R36-5022-H0. One is secured from the bottom and one by a gland nut. Which in your opionion is better?
Funny I was looking at the universal motorsport strut and wonder how to adapt those.
Do you by chance have the bilstein part numbers for the rears?

You'll also have to revalve the p30s (because they're golf inserts...), or just buy them though AWR and I think they'll already be revalved.
3000GT inserts are already decently for stiffer springs because they're from such a heavy car.
the part number for the rear AWR bilsteins is an AK7108R99, but they're customized by bilstein for AWR. They change them from a rod eye mount (like Josh's SNs) to a normal stud mount like stock... They also have a snap ring in the body to mount a coilover sleeve on, I'm not sure if this is another custom touch or not.

So I looked up the custom front MacPherson strut shock offered by Bilstein. They are at least $550 a side. OUCH. Plus camber plates and springs....

. The stud is mfg by myself with Assab 705 steel with 3mm more length to clear the spring.

Awesome. I want that stud. One question. does it not change the angle of the whole suspension? What does it do to the shock travel.?
Eage8. Did you have pictures or install of those Bilstein 46mm Universal Motorsports Struts. What stroke lengths did you use. Im still about a year from purchase though.

McMaster car only has 12.9 black oxide bolts which might rust... fastenal has zinc coated 12.9 grade bolts, but max out at only 40mm long which I'm not sure is long enough....
inverted shocks are only to lighten un-sprung weight, but they do transfer the weight of the 14mm strut rod to sprung weight which is fairly heavy, so it's not as beneficial as you would originally think

My struts are done being revalved yet... but I used the shortest version which is the 6" stroke. it's should be slightly shorter than the 3000GT inserts. I'll post pictures of everything when I'm done with my version 2 Bilsteins...
my original Bilsteins are sold.

Re: universal motorsport bilstein length:
Here is a measurement of my old 3000GT bilsteins:
and here are measurements of the motorsport bilsteins:
http://streetwiseparts.com/content/w...rt-Drawing.pdf
L2 on the 6" strokes = 450mm which is pretty close to what the 3kgts are.

I just purchased Mike's old setup, can't wait to get them on the car! I'm planning to run 400# front springs and 275# rears and will most likely run a 205/50/15 tire for now.

Here is the new setup:
5.8" stroke Bilstein universal motorsport struts
9" stroke Bilstein ASNs
Both custom valved by fat cat motorsports with KBO (blow off) pistons.
AWR top mounts
Springs 900/425, no sway bars, 150 lbs/in tender springs
Fat Cat also machined the top stud for me:
drilled and tapped the mounting studs to 1/2", not the best, because M12 OD is larger than 1/2" ID, but it seems to be holding fine (it's also what AWR does for their bilsteins). I messed up the one on the right and it has a lot less thread depth, I'll need to get a new mounting stud and redo that one, but so far so good.
ears tacked to the strut housings:
Ears finished being welded, corners smothed out, and painted:
seals and bearings being pressed into the housings:
So far so good:
on the street the 900 lbs springs in the front ride just as well as my 600s did on the 3000GT struts, pretty nice, no slowing down for bumps required.

Im new to all of this, so i hope i dont come off stupid... But whats wrong with building a setup with the bilstein hd's that are made for fc's?B46-1214-H0 - Rears R30-5014-H0 - Fronts and running them with awr's strut tubes, and coilover sleeves? Is it cause its valved wrong? Or is it cause the HD shocks for fc's are made for stock height and perform badly when lowered?

- They'd have to be revalved to handle serious springs
- they're going to be stock length, so you'll bottom out the damper if you're low.
- the stock inserts don't work in AWR strut tubes. Those are designed for vw gti, p30-0032s which are much shorter or short Koni race struts
- the fronts are only 30mm pistons, 36mm pistons in the 3kgt inserts are going to give you more control and valving options
