S-AFC What does the "S" stand for anyways?
I would like to see a lot of feedback on this. I would hope that this is informational to everyone and based on the input, clears up any mistry regarding the S-AFC.
I read impressive notes at RX-7.com and talked to Ari myself and was SOLD (I still feel like I have the barb in my cheek) on the S-AFC.
I had it installed about six months ago. I red the manual throughly a couple of times and then began making moderate adjustments in a systimatical progression. I felt no noticable performance increase. A little here, a little there, and I'm not sure if I ever felt anything at all. In addition to a haltech, I have a digital volt meter conected to the four wire Haltech OS2 sensor and I can't say that I see any measured difference.
I have set the S-AFC as high as 45% across the powerband (3000k and up) then set it back to zero across the entire range. I'm just not seeing anything tht I can measure.
So has anyone had any success with the S-AFC? If so, what are you driving and what are the settings (correction etc.)
Thanks to all of those that give input and I hope that all present and future S-AFC owners find this thread informational.

sorry I'm not any help, but maybe you can help me. Bought an apexi SAFC from a friend. It came with the controller and wiring harness, and some other odds and ends, but it didn't come with a sensor and a solenoid which the mechanic now swears I need at the price of $250. MY question is do I need those; I don't feel I do after reading the Instalation, am I being stupid or is he Wrong. He already hooked it up and the car ran like crap. I checked all of the settings and they were right. I think he hooked it up wrong. I have more details (mods, settings, etc.) if those help anybody, feel free to ask.
Any advice is apprieciated.

I don't remember any solinoid???? and as far as the sensor - I'm sure that you mean the OS2 sensor. My documentation does not show it connecting to any "sensor", just the ECU wires for the Air Flow/pressure Signal OUTPUT and Air Flow/pressure Signal INPUT. I understood that you have the wiring diagram. I recomend that you lift the carpet on the passanger side and confirm that the wires are connected correctly. (This thing is so DAM* simple to wire up - you just need to be able to solder). If you have trouble understanding the wiring - trust me just read it over a couple times and you will get it.
Being an engineer my recomendation would be to begin troubleshooting by confirming wire connections. If they look correct and you car still runs like crap, unsolder the wires and restore to original. Test car to see if runs like junk. If yes trouble is somewhere else. If no, reconnect and see if problems returns. If no then your mechanic mucked things up. If yes then there is a problem with SAFC unit.
Hope this helps.

Hey MTrx7 ... How did it run like crap???? I hooked mine up and it ran like crap too. In the morning it would sputter like eheheheheh untill warm then it would run better. I took it off and the car ran normal again. I soldered all the connections too. Nowone has told me what my prob could of been. I think thiers some trick to soldering it otherwise I dont know why it would run like crap. I double and triple checked everything.

I haven't got the car back yet, so I can't check. He did an engine and turbo rebuild, then said he'd install the afc since it was there. What the car is doing is flooding itself w/gas. Even the exhaust smells heavily of gas and my a/f gauge is lined out constantly. i only drove it about a mile then it started acting horribly. No power and wanted to die all the time. I'm still arguing w/ the mech over the parts. Would mods have anything to do with it?

Nope.. not the mods.. Sound like thats one of the things my car was doing. It flooded a couple of times wile the car was idling. Take it out and im 98 percent sure your probs will be solved. Get a performance shop to install it if u have to.

I just installed the S-AFC yesterday in my 89' FC and the car runs like crap I can only get it started when I put the pressure signal input to like 3in 0out then it takes awhile for it to start then when it does I have to full around with the press. signal input to keep it running. And I'm pretty sure I don't even have a pressure sensor but a flap type sensor. I think I'm going to take the damn thing off.

A'pexi S-AFC stand for "super air flow converter". I just read it off my box that I kept when I had an s-afc. If you put it on your car, be sure you put the settings in the right places. FD's and FC's will be configured differently because one is a mas and the other is a map. My FC would run like crap if it wasn't programmed right(buddy of mine initialized it and didn't tell me). It only took me 30 minutes to do everything, and within an hour, I had enough fuel to run 1.0 kilos boost on a stock turbine.
