s-afc data questions + aircare settings
Ok, I read the manual and I saw that you can only switch between two settings. I am planning on getting my s-afc tuned at a local shop around here and I was going to ask them to set two settings for me. One for optimal perfomance (ie. racing) and the other for fuel economy. Would there be major differences between the two? I also wanted a flame shooting setting but it only holds 2 settings . lol
It also says in the manual that you shouldn't change between data settings while you are driving. Wouldnt it be alrite to change it at idle or would you have to turn the car completely off?
What kind of settings could I use to help me pass air care?
What kind of settings could I use to shoot flames out the back?
Mods List:
1990 rx7 tII
720cc secondary injectors
walbro 255 fuel pump
s-afc
knight sports turbo (similar to a small hybrid) owner i bought it from was unsure
ported wastegate
full turbo back racing beat exhaust w/ 3.15" DP
K&N cone filter
HKS SSQV b.o.v
thanks for any help
matt

I don't have a SAFC (yet... working on it), but from the reading I've been doing, I'm planning to only use one setting. You can set the "low throttle" and "high throttle" percentages, and a correction at each setting (plus interpolation between it).
Tuning will be slightly different, since you have a turbo, but my general plan had been to set the "low throttle" setting as lean as possible for highway cruising, adjusting up to a "max power" setting by 50-60% throttle (on a NA, that actually is still leaning it out, just not as much). This way one throttle map has everything I'd need.
For shooting flames, [standard comments about it being stupid and wasting gas and washing away lubricating oil and being hard on the turbo and everything else], but if you really want to do it, I'd be inclined to richen things up dramatically at ~6500 RPM (redline is 7k on that, right?) at the low throttle map. If you're on the gas hard, you probably still want things tuned properly, but if you're light on the throttle at 6500 RPM, you're probably either shifting or revving it freely.
Especially with a turbo, I'm not sure a "fuel economy" map would be a good idea. It would be lean. If you get on it hard, lean is bad. By leaning it out at lower throttle settings, you get fuel economy, but if you need a lot of power to merge/change lanes/etc, you don't have to worry about the maps - as soon as you hammer on it, things richen up and you go.
Obviously since I haven't actually tuned a TII (or even a NA) with a SAFC, you don't want to take my comments as absolute truth, but that's pretty much what I'm planning to do with mine when I get a SAFC.

We now have a seperate forum: "super AFC"
Check it out.
Many of us are using the pressure sensor signal to control the High/low map interpolation.
In general you set the low map as lean as you can & still drive smoothly.
Then set the high boost map to get 12-11 AFR.
To better handle the secondary injector cut-in, I set the NE points at 1000 2000 2500 3500 4000 5000 6000 7000

ok... so can i change between data settings at idle or does my car have to be off?
also, sure shot were the settings u listed for passing air care?
anyone got any aircare friendly settings?
flame shooting settings?

Lean the low throttle map about 10-20% for the higher RPM's.

If you set the idle stop dash pot up to hold the throttle part open a second longer, the ECU will feed fuel on gear changes & throttle blips.. - POW -
