Where Do I Find The New Texas Emission/Inspection Stds./Procedures
I just got my 8/31/05 inspection last minute & just under the wire for old style.
Does anyone know the Texas State source address for what's new on emission testing & exemptions for certain low mileage vehicles (less than _____miles/yr,
driven, _____yrs old, etc.)??
My Racing Beat exhaust system makes a wonderful sound of rotary music to my ears, but will I be a fugitive from the DPS if I don't pass emissions 8/31/06?? Do I need plastic surgery, a new ID after each ticket, diplomatic status, membership in the 100 Club, a priest's collar or a gorilla suit to wear in case of a pull-over?? LD.

All types of answers: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/Misc/faq/insp_faq.htm
According to TxDot:
Which vehicles are required to get an emissions test?
Vehicles:
capable of being powered by gasoline;
from 2 years old to and including 24 years old; and
that are registered in El Paso, Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Montgomery, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall andTarrant. Beginning September 1, 2005 vehicles registered in Travis and Williams counties will begin emissions testing.
Are there any vehicles that are exempt from emissions testing?
-motorcycles
-vehicles registered as antique (or classic)
-Vehicles required to display a slow-moving vehicle emblem

I dropped the Mound off at the body shop with an expired sticker, fully expecting to get it back, worst case, with 3 weeks in August to get it inspected sans emissions. AND THE BODY SHOP STILL HAS MY CAR, 8 WEEKS LATER. And it hasn't even been painted yet?! WTF?
So I got screwed, seeing as how I know I won't pass. I told they manager my dillemma and he said he would get a sticker on it before its return. I don't think that is going to happen.
Time to start asking around, I guess...
Not Right on.
(On the flip side I am going to have a badass paint job....maybe my car will be exempt when I get it back in 2009!)

As long as noone solicits of offers "illegal" inspections we are all ok...
please note, anyone who knows of a FREINDLY shop please PM the info directly ot the other person.
Posting (in public) the name of a "helpful" shop will only guarentee future trouble for them.

What I havent seen on anything Ive read is the procedure for getting a waiver. If you spend 300$ attempting to fix your emmisions problem you are supposedly able to get a waiver. There is another waiver that you can get if it will cost you too much to replace the broken part (cat converter from mazda is probably more than KBB of my car). If anyone knows of "friendly" shops in or around Austin hook a brother up with a PM!!

I looked on the aircheck texas site and there is not a "waiver challenge station" for Travis or Williamson Co. Nice, real nice.... I plan on getting mine inspected soon (exp in March 06) so I will have time to fix it without being a ticket magnet and all money I put into the emissions system will count towards a waiver. My exhaust is all new (no cats though) so I hopefully can count things like new injectors, basic tune up etc..

My understanding is the test is stationary idle and 2 or 3k.... pretty much a total joke as far as emissions tests go. I know a few people with inspection stations, so I may play around with it. My FB is so horribly tuned it shouldn't pass a dyno test, but my understanding from a buddy is it'll pass.
Will keep ya'll posted.

smog
There is actually a form you can fill out and claim you do not have the funds to make the proper repairs to get it legal...both times I have done this (on my last car...an integra with 12.1:1 comp and some major upgrades and a old ford truck) I got the entire fix FREE...they severely frown on mods though!
Also if you get busted with a fake inspection or don't have the proper paper work it is hell to pay...my best friend just got nabbed in houston and it cost him $750 fine and his DL for 6 months!!! Pretty serious stuff!

Klar has your solution.
Texas is the home of creative "residency".
I think that George Bush (senior) still has a hotel suite in Houston that is his "permanent" address for residency purposes.
All you need is a relative/friend (living outside of the afore named smog zones) that will let you list their address as your "permanent" address and you can actually live anywhere you want. I would be real suprised if there is any cross communications between the realestate tax system (homstead exemption) or the voter registration systems and the Texas DPS Licence systems but I'm sure somebody already knows or will find out soon.

well guys i do inspections in round rock and all i can tell you is this new **** sucks the only good thing is that you 1st gen and us 2nd gens are close to the cut off date kinda but really if the car is 95 and older it only gets the tail pipe which from what i've seen is alot better then the obd2 **** cause i've had the obd2 cars fail alot and maybe 2-3 tail pipe fail .i had my fc on the machine and as long as your mix is some what right and the cat(s) are hot then theres really shouldnt be a problem..i mean we have to run the rpms at around 2500 for 90 seconds the then let it idle for the same as far as getting a wavier you have to spend 600 or more i believe to get one for the year then you got to start all over. they even have a thinkg for low income familys that cant pay for the work . if anyone in austin wants to do a test run to see what the deal is pm me and let me know

"Later, the President and Mrs. Bush traveled to Houston, TX. Upon arrival, they went to their residence at the Houstonian Hotel."
I have no idea and could care less where G.H. Bush or Hilary Clinton or anybody else maintains their “residency”. In any case lack of sleep is no excuse for being an ***.
Don't swear at me about something you obviously have no clue about.
I'm in the book, so if you want to drive down to New Braunfels we can have a nice face to face chat about the "leftist" propoganda that Bush maintained a hotel suite during his presidency.

You must have missed the point of my original post so... I'll try to be clearer.
My point was that "legal residency" is a loose legal concept that is open to interpretation and can be used to avoid other laws (e.g. vehicle registration requirements) that are mandated for a specific geographic location.
No thread hijacking by me here. There was an obvious "squeel" resulting from my referal to a former presidents interpretation of this law. Sorry you guys are so defensive, but facts are facts. As I alluded to in my response to Chris Taylor, "creative residency" has been parcticed by the Clintons as well, so I believe that it is a common practice regardless of political party affiliation.
