Update: Front License Plates in Texas

For the ten years I've been driving in TX, I have never used a front plate on any car. I've owned 6 cars, and always took the front plate off.
I have been pulled over countless times for various reasons and received at least a dozen citations over the years
. I have never had a cop say a single thing about my lack of front plate. Not once...
BTW - Outside of Austin, Texas is pretty much worthless.

I've been tagged before for no front plate, but it has always been when I was pulled over for something they know wouldn't stick so they nailed me for the plate instead. Example: "I know you were speeding but I didn't/couldn't clock you. But I can write you up for no front plate."

I'd like to chime in if I may.
For asthetic (sp) reasons, I'm all for the one license plate bill.
But on the other hand, (now stay with me on this), I'm actually against it and think that the current law allows cops/officers another justifiable legit reason to pull over people that only arouse suspicions, which is usually not a legal enough reason to pull people over for. Did I make sense in that? LoL. I'll use the hispanic example sine I'm hispanic and I could probably offend less people this way. Ex. 3am Saturday morning. Chevy Impala cruising at posted speeds, big shiny rims, and basically doing nothing visibly against the law. No loud music, no hanging out of windows. But an officer sees that there are 4 hispanic males, all bald headed, all wearing white muscle shirts, all with their seats reclined farther back than the norm. They basically are well within the limits of the law. Now the officer has a suspicion of them and wants to pull them over just to check them out. Let's say they have drugs and 4 criminal convictions are just a month or so away. Well because of the stipulation that their (the criminals) being pulled over was unjustifiable, the court allows the cases to be thrown out. So instead of 4 criminals being put in jail, where they should be, they are let loose, back on the streets. Now let's subtract that front license plate on that Chevy Impala, and our officer now has a justifiable, legal reason for the intial pullover and our 4 criminals are behind bars.
The license plate law, to me, is similiar to the broken windsheild law, the rear license plate light law, and others like that that seem to waste tax payers money through legislation, and enforcement, but can give cops/officers the upperhand in dodging loopholes that set criminals free.
At least that's my .02.

Have you been to other parts in Texas? to make a statement like that is really dumb. There is a lot more to Texas than just Austin and to say the rest of it is worthless is stupid. If that is true then Texas is the biggest waste of space. Anyways back to the topic at hand, I talk to two cops yesterday and BOTH of them told me you have to have both plates on and that this law is most likely going to get shot down like DKJ said. Now I have to find a way to put a front plat on my FC

I was pulled over and specifically given a ticket because i had no front plate. And what is more the a-hole pulled me over 3 days in a row for the same thing and gave me 3 tickets, at the time I was driving my new rx-8 and the dealer was waiting on a new bracket because we had just replaced the nose. I went to court on it and the judge threw them out when I showed the paid order for the bracket dated prior to being pulled over. that isn't the end of the story because the same officer the pulled me over because my license plate light was "out" it wasn't I had to go talk to the police chief and ask for this guy to leave me alone. I know off topic.... back on topic I hope they get rid of the ft plate officer lawman doesn't need any more reasons they have enough.
